Default Aftermarket TPMS Sensor Question

When you get aftermarket tpms sensors installed, is it the installer that programs at what psi the alarm goes off or is it still the factory settings of 33/39?

Sensors don't get programmed - they just transmit. Reading parameters are set by factory with some input by user (summer/winter, full load/partial load, etc.) via the OBC.

Okay, thanks. My tire guys charged me to "program" them. I figured it was bull but wanted to make sure.

It depends on what sensor they installed. Now-a-days both Continental/VDO and Sharader sensors come as a "one sensor fits all". So the tire shops dont need to carry 50 different sensor types for each vehicle they just carry 2-5 and for a lack of better terms "program" or activate them to your car make and model so it transmits correctly. This is done with a handheld tool.

So if the sensors all read 5 pounds high, is that a problem with the sensor or what's being read by the obi?
