Key Battery Replacement 997.1 (w/Photos!)
#16
Many thanks to the OP! The remote functions on my '08 997 key fob just stopped working today. Got my new 2032 battery from CVS, popped it in and no problem! I would just like to add that the prongs for the battery are a bit delicate. I found that if you push the battery from the single prong side over to the side with the two longer prongs and the little gold spring, this will dislodge the battery from the single prong and let you pop it up quite easily.
I did not have to do any sort of relearn procedure after replacing my battery. My key fob did just die today, however, and maybe the time course has something to do with it. Thanks again to the OP for an excellent write up!
Drive safely,
Franc

Don't pry it open from the side. There is a small gap at the front of the key where you should pry it open. Leaves no marks etc.
I noticed the first time I changed batteries that the remote worked intermittently. Just had to remove batteries and insert again and then it worked.
If you are pissed off on the 997.1 keys opening the frunk by accident you can replace them for 997.2 versions. I bought 2 from internet for about 50 bucks and swapped the blades and electronics including the transponder. A 1 hour job for 2 keys. Even the Porsche Crest was included in the new keys.

Thanks for the pictures--just received a new remote purchased online & the spring had popped off (didn't see it happen) and then had a little extra piece of plastic...
Was able to find the spring though bent a little able to put it back together.
No other way to program a blank remote than at the dealer? $130 for i am guessing 3 minutes worth of work!

Factor in the range of these keys .... I open my car doors from a 4 min walk away it seems. I think I am opening my frunk from my office !

If your frunk release is too sensetive, your dealer can program a delay requiring a more deliberate press to open it. Mine now takes a solid 3 second press to activate it. Of course, that does mean a trip to the stealership.

I replaced my battery, on both remotes as it looked quite easy, now BOTH don't work, and BOTH LED lights don't light up... I tried the Sync process multiple times with no luck! Is the LED light indicator related to SYNC issues? or it's completely independent?
EDIT: Fixed this issue. Problem was I used a small screwdriver right on the gold prong (see below) to remove the battery, doing so, BENT IT DOWN, which made the connection not strong enough. Therefore, IF you changed the battery and don't have a red LED lighting up, ensure this gold prong, and the other one are TOUCHING the circuit board, bending it up with your fingernails should do the trick. I'd also remove the battery with finger nail on the side of the arrow below, this would minimize damaging/bending the contact points.
