i like the wheels also, but i like the carrera sports better...couldn't tell a difference in the ride and depending on where the speedo gets its readings from, front or back, or..., never checked it out... the front wheels/tires are pretty much the same as the 19's, the rears are a bit larger...moot point cause i will sell them and stay with the sports, maybe even go to 18's if i find something i really like...speedlines? maybe,

The paint is called "orange" or RS orange." Everything was factory painted. 30 option codes on the car, most of which have to do with paint, leather, alcantara, and stitching, along with the sport chrono, short shifter, and locking rear diff.

Nothing major, but IMO, the side decals have a major impact on the appearance of the car and compliment the stock finish on the wheels.

P.S. RJT, great pics and are you an aviator as well?

I love the color, is it Cobalt Blue Metallic? The rear wing and wheels also give it a nice aggressive look!

Yes your right about the color... and I purchased it exactly how it sits, window tint, h&r springs, ruger mesh wheels, and the wing you commented on is part of the factory aero kit.

Thanks for the compliment

Still enjoying mine. IMHO, from an aesthetic perspective there isn't a bad line on the 997's. To my eye, everything is in proportion to everything else. They're lovely to look at, and then we get to turn the key!

Yah it's much larger, especially from the rear the Mustang sits very high in the back. It's totally different inside too, you have this long wide hood in front of you, visually very appealing. The Porsche has a clearer corner visibility which is appealing to me also. Complete opposite driving dynamics, both highly entertaining.

Your camber might also play a role, but I personally would opt for the 15mm if you're sticking with the Lobster claw wheels (that is if these sized spacers are your options). I'm currently running 14mm spacers in the rear and it looks perfect IMO on 295's.

Thanks! I can't wait to get home and drive them again, two very addictive engines in that space.

Pertaining to your question - to upload photos just click reply like you normally would and then scroll down below the text box there should be a tab in the center that says 'manage attachments' click that and then it will give you an option of uploading photos from your HD. Also you can preview post to see if the image actually fits the screen before submitting. Hope that helps.

JeanLouis33 11-24-2013 02:39 PM

Yes. There was some criticism when it came out, that the look was a little "over the top", too extreme, but I always loved it.
If anything, I find the 991 turbo a little disappointing in its look (not its technical characteristics!!), especially from the front. A little too bland.

Which is just fine, because I cannot remotely hope to buy one, anyway :-)

Was just thinking the same thing. So cool that this design has been out for nearly 10 years and I can't help but sit here and stare at it still.

Gentlemen, you took the words right out of my mouth...

Driving down the road is another test... I do not lip-read, but now I can recognize the word "Porsche" when pedestrians (usually a father with his 6-to-18 year old son) pronounces it, points and attracts his offspring's attention. I always think "here is the next generation of Porschist being trained..."
I have never had a rude or aggressive gesture... Porsche is just instantly recognisable.... and likeable.

Lovely orange Turbo... you guys seem to be more daring, colour wise, than we are, in Europe. I had never seen the stock wheels in black...

Here , it's just black, dark blue and grey... nice colours, but when 9 out of 10 are like that, it gets tedious.

....haven't got my wheels yet, so I'll show only the dash et back. Techart steering wheel (really amazing difference it makes to the touch) ,

and started slipping in high gears)

Thanks, Mspeedster. Yes, Techart are very expensive. But when it came to fiddling with a Turbo, I wasn't going to entrust it to just any tuner.

This gave me the opportunity to drive to Stuttgart, visit the Porsche factory, the Museum, and see the Techart workshops... very impressive. Very professional.
the wheels, on the other hand, are Vog'Art forged black wheels, as the Techart wheels (even with the good discount they were offering me) remained ridiculously expensive. And I told them so... :roflmao:

The 550hp (553 to be accurate, on the rolling road test) have transformed my car into an animal. Given the price of the 991 TT, it was the perfect option for my limited budget !

She is lovely, Skater from down under! She hasn't aged at all !! And your photo is spectaculer (what is the snow-capped mountain?)

I personally find that the 991TT has less "personality" in her looks. It is, obviously, a fabulous car too, but the 997 remains iconic !!

997 is the message from Porsche to their clients "we hear you!!" when we all screamed at them "a 911 has round headlights, period"

997 is an amazing intemporal design, which will not become a classic only because they sold so many of them... :) (the price of success!!)

That's Mount Ruapehu, photo is taken from the Desert Road. Two weeks after buying her I took a road trip from Auckland to Wellington to get a feel for the car. Was great :)

And agree, the shape of the 997 is nicer than the 991 IMO. Am sure 993 owners feel the same about their cars relative to the 996/7/1's though...

Lucky fellow... and I suppose it is 27°C at the moment... while we are shivering. New Zealand is on my list of "must sees"...

Agree of course... one's car is always the best. But it wasn't sour grapes... the 991S is gorgeous, but the signature "eyebrow" front lights disappeared on the Turbo, which therefore lacks that "991 special look".

But of course, if I could spare 200K€, I would get a 991 TurboS !... instead, I went to Techart's and put 550hp in mine... it will keep me happy for now :)

Do you have pics of your interior (I mean your car, not your home :roflmao: )

Love the brakes. Are they stock or PCCB? How did you get the color? Reminds me of the 918 Spyder Hybrid brake color...

Congrats on the gorgeous new ride...use her in the best of health!!!

Your road trip sounds wonderful; the countryside in the Mt. Ruapehu area looks spectacular and is on my list of places to visit.

As someone that took a 5k mile road trip upon purchasing my 997.2, I find myself daydreaming of the next road trip...I suspect that you may feel the same way as these cars are built for travel and it is amazing how much these type of adventures help bond us to the vehicle.

Here is a pic of mine nearing home back in October...

Oooooh, and here comes another gorgeous 4S ... I respect the lovers of the oldtimers, een 993s, they are lovely cars... but give me a 997 any day of the week. I am on my third (4S 3.6L, 4s 3.8l and this TT) and I can't get enough...

Here's another one of my 3.8L (the pillars are a wind farm in the centre of the Spanish Cordillera...)

They were Red but i figured i would go with green. It pops with the black and i did like the simularity with the 918/Turbo s edition 918 brakes. I did them myself its all in the prep work!

The last one (blue one with gt2 front bumper) would have been my favorite =)

TARGA

Actually, my 2nd favourite. The original owner spent crazy $$ on factory options like deviated stitching everywhere, factory painted almost everywhere inside same colour as exterior, which is a PTS. The front bumper was changed by me. It OE from a TT.

NZ is a fantastic destination for drivers. The country is small but the small population means lots of empty back roads just waiting for a set of 19" wheels to lay down some rubber. Fantastic countryside and coastlines to serve as a backdrop for great driving. Highly recommend it!

This reminds me of my visit to Techart in Stuttgart (well, Leonberg) a couple of weeks ago... the bodywork shop was amazing; but what enthralled me most was the leather work... they actually re-stitch the whole of a car (and that's a lot of stitching),

Countless hours of hand-work... just because the owner wants a different colour

"There is no limit to what we can do..." said Axel Lanoue, the French resident sales person at Techart's. Wow.

As a matter of interest, do you know who sell the front bumper on the 2 Turbos (your photos N°3 and last). Or are they simply GT2RS stock bumpers fitted to TTs?

Ok, may I repeat my question... in Farfel's lovely collection on the previous page, I spotted this pic.

Now, is it an aftermarket bumper (and who sell it) or a simple GT2RS added to a TT...

I am beginning to like it, and my beauty could do with a touch of improvement at the front...
particularly as it would be complimented by the white.

Farfelc2s 12-08-2013 11:31 AM

Bumpers

The Brown 997 is a TT w a Rennline smile added.
The Blue C4S Targa, I changed the bumper to a used TT bumper w lights and a Rennline smile. On the TT bumper, its only the lights that are very expensive, try to buy a bumper thatsalready complete.

Thanks Farfel.

A Rennline smile... sounds lovely.

So do you buy just the "smile" and have your bumper cut out to accommodate it ?
Or is it an "all together buy, bumper + smile" ?

myw 12-08-2013 05:00 PM

^^ im pretty sure its an oem gts/sport classic bumper... it can be purchased at suncoast parts around 2800$ i believe.

We may not be speaking about the same thing, here, myw...

I was (no, I am ) referring to the bumper of the brown Turbo 2 or 3 posts before. The one with the "smile" vent at the top of the bumper, which unless I am mistaken was only ever seen on the GT3 and the GT2RS.

I am considering it for mine... :burnout:

myw 12-08-2013 05:49 PM

ahhh yes now i understand. the brown one is a oem turbo bumper with the gt3 upper air grille. its about 40$ from suncoast.

Oh, it is just a stick-on... not sure then... although the advantage is that i is removable without trace. In Europe, Porsche owners are fanatical about not changing a thing on the cars... it drives me mad... and I am glad to see what you guys do !

for now, I am facing a week without "her"... :crying:

I'll try and post pics of the work in progress... clutch is quite a job, I am told. but it's a Techart track-clutch, so it will handle the extra cavalry...

I saw the Bridgestones on the wheels yesterday... love the look. Can't wait to have them on the car. then, depending on how they sit (the ET coefficient is slightly different), I am thinking of 5mm spacers (sorry, no idea what 5 millimeters is in Dollars :D )

Then I'll post photos and you all can tell me whether she needs that black GT2RS top front bumper grille or not.

This does feel like Christmas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are trying to pull one over on him ... the adaptive sport seats pinch your shoulders and hurt your upper back so I have standard electric heated seats, heat for your lower back and help ease the pains of growing old... So the swap is mine!

 Love the humour... you got me going at first...

But seriously, yes, I have heard some reservations about everyday road use of these seats.

They are really designed for the GT3, a car that few people use on a daily basis. Can you still do 500 Miles in a day and actually get out of the car unassisted

Having said that, they look (and probably cost) like a Million $$.

On the minus side, losing all the back, spine, side adjustable seats, AND the seat memory depepnding on who's driving...
that IS a lot to lose... can't have everything, I suppose.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

on the home front, the wheels are ready, the track clutch being fitted... I am drooling...

They were available on he GT2 in 2007 and were optional on all 997.2 and Cayman/Boxsters starting in 2009. They were standard equipment on Cayman R and Boxster Spyder as well. They are very comfortable. As a testament to that, I picked up the car in Cleveland and drove to NC, about 500 miles, with only a stop for gas with no discomfort.

JeanLouis - I drove it every day up in Delaware for 10 months and it was excellent took about a week in Houston to realise the road conditions & surfaces around town are not so good .... Further the car is lowered so a bit of a problem getting up ramps into parking areas - so back to the Cayenne as the daily...

Just had Mike Callas @ Rennsport set the car up for a wee more track time - so that's where I'll be heading next year....

2 weeks ago I drove 6 hours to trade my C2 in for a GT3. While driving to the dealer in the last 2 hours of stop/go traffic on terrible roads I finally made it to the dealership. In 2 years of daily driving the C2 it was the most miserable drive I made. If I had to drive on those beat up & congested roads every day I would have been on my way to the Mercedes dealership to buy an S class instead of a GT3.
I was told the previous owner of the GT3 traded it in for a 991 Carrera with PDK. After experiencing those roads and traffic I can't blame him for making the switch. Traffic and road conditions can make or break the fun factor of the higher strung cars.

Jean, renting a cup car sounds appealing. You're lucky to have that opportunity to experience it without needing to make the investment of purchasing a cup car (not to mention the tow vehicle, maintenance & consumables).

Thank you, Edgy. So do I... I fell in love with Carrara Weiss as they call it, in 2008 and bought this 2007 car in 2009. I have loved every minute of it.

As I explained here, I was faced with the choice of a used 991S , but the loss of power put me off... the new 991 Turbo S and its stratospheric price tag (out of my league) , and spend good money to update this one. I chose the last option;

I made today the first pics of the finished product... the only things you can't see... 553HP, track clutch, short travel gear stick...

Hi Bruce,

Love the RS stripe. That came out great.

I'd love to have painted seat backs. I had considered it at one point, just seemed like a lot of time, effort, and money for fairly inconspicuous mod. They do look great though. It would look great on your car!

It's been a while since I've been posting also. Long time , no see.

I'm still enjoying the FVD muffs that I bought from you several years ago. They have a much better sound than the original PSE that my car came with. Thanks again for turning me on to those !!!

You still tracking that purty speed yellow Carrera of yours?

But seriously, yes, I have heard some reservations about everyday road use of these seats.

They are really designed for the GT3, a car that few people use on a daily basis. Can you still do 500 Miles in a day and actually get out of the car unassisted

They came stock on the -09 C4S launch car which I have as a DD. I've not done 500 miles in a day but 350 with no issues at all. The seat is very comfortable once you're in it and I think it gets an undeserved bad rap from people who for whatever reason have trouble getting in and out of it but never accumulated any actual road miles. Aside from the comfort factor, they add a level of connectivity with the car that just can't be achieved with any other stock seat.

On the minus side, losing all the back, spine, side adjustable seats, AND the seat memory depepnding on who's driving...
that IS a lot to lose... can't have everything, I suppose.
I'm 6'3" and like to spread out in the car. With the seat all the way back, it's very close to where I would put it if it was adjustable. Perfect for me would be just a bit more tilt to the back which can be done by adjusting the floor mountings.

I bought mine in Cleveland. The drive back to NC was about 500 miles. Absolutely zero comfort issues on the drive back. I agree that you are connected to the car with these seats. A huge difference from my stock seats in my old 2001 996.

Its challenging but you get used to it -- big stupid truck for 6 months and then a fun little car for 6 months, rinse repeat.

One benefit is low mileage on your car :)

The highest speed limit in New Zealand is 100 km/h and we have a tolerance limit of 4 km/h :)
The more tickets you get the more demerit points you receive. If you get 100 demerit points, your license gets suspended for some time :)

It should have a Porsche paint code someplace on the body, perhaps on the gas lid, door jamb, or under one of the liners in the frunk. Other Rennlisters probably know exactly where you can find it.

Thanks! Sadly I took it using my old GF1 camera, with no tripod, at night. So at full size you can see evidence of the lack of image stabilization. In hind sight I should have made the effort to pull my other camera out of my suitcase and taken a better photo. So gutted I didn't.

I've only got the copy off my phone on me at the moment, but I've saved and re-sized to fit a standard widescreen desktop :)

Though not a great environment to take pictures., here is my (new to me) Targa 4S PDK, and the car it is replacing. While the RX-8 doesn't have anywhere near the power of the 911, after having to go back to the RX-8 for a few weeks after my new car's transport plate lapsed, I was pleasantly surprised how fun the the old car (6 speed) was to drive and how well it handled. Wish I could keep both, but I'm looking forward to really getting to know the 4S once I can drive it again.

I actually believe a good amount of RX-8 drivers graduate to a 911 as their next car (both being the same size and having 4 seats)

In many way I feel the RX-8 and specifically the 997 Targa version of the 911 both exhibit form follows function as far as the styling. The RX-8 had to compromise its design cues to incorporate the rear suicide doors and I feel the Targa roof line is very similar in the sense that it's a compromise on the coupe's sexy rear roofline. My point being both are a welcome trade off (for me anyway) for the added versatility.

I did have to warn friends the last very time they were to be in the back seats of the RX-8 that it would feel like a limousine compared to the rear seats of the new car I was getting.

I finally got a ride for my new to me C4S MD to CO. I purchased the car in mid December 2013 and took delivery of this fine machine last Friday 1.24.14.

Awesome so far :)
