Porsche's look the same...
Well not really...but I think I just experienced what a lot of the world feels when a new 911 comes out.
I saw pictures today of the recently released "new" Panamera. My immediate thought was "It looks exactly the same". I looked through a dozen or more pictures of the car inside and out and my thought remained "It looks exactly the same". I'll admit that while a basic fan of the car, I'm no expert...but I honestly couldn't really point out one major difference between the "new" and the "old" Panamera.
Is this how non 911 people perceive the 911? I can tell you instantly the differences between a 996, a 997.1, 997.2 and a 991...but can anyone else? My guess is no.
Thoughts?

if I may chime in:
being so new to the marque, I admit being very uneducated about Porsche cars, and still so, but learning more every drive out...
I would assume a lot of non owners do percieve the Pcar to be fairly similar from year to year, but as you also mentioned, true fans and owners do know the subtle differences, and with excitment!
I myself am becoming more familar with different models, I guess it boils down to the guy; or gal, observing.....and their passion level for the vehicles

I checked out the Panamera photos as well. I think they made it look slightly less ugly. The rear has changed a little. I was hoping they would go wagon style.

evolution and perfection take time.. im a fan of the slow but steady Porsche evolution.. some other car makers that re-invent their looks every model spin is too much for me. Bring back the basic, simple design of cars! One neat thing with Porsche is having parts bolt together across different models.

Great trade. I bet you kept the launch car for more than 5 months.

Elusive,
Its been my experience that most everyone knows the car is a Porsche, but very, very few people could tell the difference between a 997, 993, 991 etc. There's further confusion when you try to explain that its a 997 as well as a 911.
Anyway, the beauty part is if you keep your 911 clean & polished.... it'll look like it just came from the showroom

A few years ago my 79 - 928 was on my friends showroom over the winter. A customer, who's car was in for service, wandered over to the rear window and asked why the engine was out....
His 996 was in the shop.....his 5th or 6th Porsche.
Across the isle was my fathers Ferrari 355GTS. More than one customer asked what year Mustang it was....... because of the chrome horse on the front and back.

Your average "Joe" cannot tell the difference between a 1st generation Boxster and a 991.
