Default Frequency of a Good Spirited Drive

I just bought a new range rover sport so I've been neglecting of taking the 911 out. Its been pretty cold here in Chicago anyway. Yesterday something just took ahold of me; I need to get back into the 911. One thing I've noticed is it really needs a good spirited drive. I feel when you drive it really slow and accelerate at the rate of normal traffic it really doesn't feel right? Anybody else feel like this?

Yesterday I took it late at night into the back roads of the burbs and let it out of its cage. Just the fix I needed!

At least twice a week I take the 4S out for a spirited spin on my favourite road through the foothills. These cars are a totally different beast once you get them above 4000 rpm. Needs to be done.

The more the better. These cars are totally different when they are driven frequently, they become a like a glove that just 'fits'. The earlier cars are the same way.

At least once a week for the car's mechanical and my own mental health.

+1, at least every Sunday since sadly my 911 is no longer my daily driver. It still makes me smile, which is a good sign, need to talk to a psychologist as to why such drives are so good for us.

I agree with Palumbo, even though I live in Atlanta I found myself driving my DD throughout the few cold months we do have down here. Now that the weather is moderating, and my tires get a bit more traction on the warm pavement, I have been taking her out more frequently. The more I drive her the better she feels and handles. The shifts are smoother, the brakes feel better and the overall driving experience is much better. Oh and like Powderzone says taching her above 4000 RPM is a real treat and great fun.

Hey islandtrader...I live in the Chicago burbs too, and my first pcar arrives in town in 13 days (but who's counting). My only concern is that I don't know where too many fun places to drive are. Where are the back roads of the burbs, or anywhere else that you like to drive?

Gaucho020...I lived in St Charles for 10 years and used to take my Miata on drives to Galena, IL. Great drive, lots of hills and twisties, and some great views from on top of the rolling hills. I don't recall the route number but I do know that the drive is also a favorite of the motor cycle crowd. You can have fun and open her up headed that way west. Have fun!!!

Thanks Jeff. I'll head west for a long day drive. Your post also prompted me to check out some motorcycle forums, which give a few more routes and seem to agree that just west of the western suburbs is the best place to drive in N IL.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

I just bought a new Range Rover Sport Supercharged and my 997 had been sitting for awhile as well.

The Range Rover is an absolute rocket ship with tons of torque and power.

The 997 almost feels slow as compared to the RR in normal city driving.

The 997 needs to be driven above 4k RPM in order to realize the actual power and performance it does possess.

Where do you like to exercise it in the Austin area? 2222 is fun, but a bit busy.
