Purchasing 2006 997

I am thinking of selling my excellent 2002 996 and purchase a 2006 997 coupe. Any recommendations would be appreciated? I know there has been a lot do discussions about IMS with 996 but is there a concern with this issue in a 2006 997?

Thanks

No issues with 06 IMS. Best of luck...

Yeah.

Don't.

Hang on to the excellent 996. Not that much difference between a 996 and a 06 997, except the depreciation you will suffer.

Wow, couldn't disagree more... especially interiors and the front of the cars. :(

+5, 997 looks more modern, is more refined with both interior and exterior. It is a considerable upgrade.

Good luck with your purchase.

The '06 997.1 has the newer IMSB... we're all still waiting for a documented case of an engine failure related to the newly designed IMSB since Porsche switched over in '05 or so... in the mean time most of us are happily enjoying our 997's. Some with over a 100K miles on the clock. If you're really worried about the IMS then get a CPO'd 997.1 or stretch for a 997.2. Of course, the 997.2 has it's own potential for concerns - HPFP failures in the early '09 cars and carbon build up over time. If you look hard enough on the internet every car has it's associated potential issues... even my wife's Lexus. Best advise we could give you is: find the car you want, get a thorough PPI done, drive it like you stole it, and maintain it well. Don't forget to post pics when you get it.
