My VIN is not on the list, yet I have a 2005 997
manufactured during the listed time frame. Any idea why? Why would same vehicle be put together with different parts?

When they realized the flawed design they upgraded it at some point in Early 2005.

They said until February 2005 manufactured date, so if you find your manufactured date you can clarify if you're part of the upgraded ones, or fall under the Class action!

BTW, this Class Action is LONG OVER-DUE! I simply cannot believe a company like Porsche has rolled out an inferior part in a 100K+ car that may cause catastrophic engine failure, and they would NOT stand behind their product when a customer is just outside that 4yrs window, knowing very well, the failure is due to their flawed design that they themselves realized and fixed in later years! Good for whoever pursued this...

54k miles so far with no problems so I hope it's alright... On the other hand if it's going to blow I hope it happens within the time limit.

Putting a 10 year time limit is kind of BS on a car that most owners will put <5000 miles/year on.

Very difficult to figure out those VIN ranges on that list. Anyone know of a simpler way to interpret if my VIN is affected or not?

JW911 . Agree- Can't figure VIN ranges!!! What am I missing?

My car was an early 05, delivered in August 04 but my VIN is not included in the list either. Since I have an aftermarket warranty through Sept 2017 it is not an issue with me.

Here's the VIN decode from a previous post...so just find the sequence for your car and focus on the last 5 digits

I have participated in several Class Action cases. It seems like the lawyers get almost all the money and the participants end up for $3.54. I just throw away the notifications now.

I have a friend with a 2003 996 C4S. He never drives the car much (only has about 16K miles on it). I guess if he has an IMS failure, he is SOL since the notice says no pay if the car was delivered 10 years ago. Too bad for him if his fails at 20K miles.

The MY05 997 cars affected are the ones that fall in these VIN ranges:

o WP0ZZZ99Z5S731099

*Note: Ignore the 9th digit (checksum digit), it's has no meaning and it's the number that throws the sequence off. Once you find the matching sequence, concentrate on the last 5 digits to see if your VIN falls in the range.

WP0ZZZ is actually for European cars, so it's odd that these are also included in the PCNA suit.

Also, in reading through the 996 thread on this, it seems like it's not only the build date of between May 4, 2001 - Feb 20, 2005, but the VIN number too. Some 996 owners have found their car's build date falls into the range of dates, but can not find their VIN listed in the range. Which could mean either they don't know how to read the VIN sequence right or maybe not all cars built between these dates have suspect IMS bearings. Leading some to believe Porsche knows exactly which cars may have weaker IMS bearings, perhaps due to a specific supplier.
