Default Assistance please...

While under the cover for other reasons, I had my air cleaner out, and spied this hose that connects to the motor just under the alternator. The end of the hose shows a rust build up, and there was a small amount of water that had dripped from it, down toward the water pump.

Can someone tell me what this hose is, and what the significance of the leak would be? I looked through the 997 USA parts catalog, but could not identify this hose.

Thanks in advance. Here's a couple of pics of someone else's motor, with arrows pointing to the offending hose.

Looks like a coolant hose to the alternator.

Btw. The car seems to have lost the yellowish cosmoline coating. The headers look a bit rusty, but maybe the nonS headers just show more surface rust. The ugly s headers seem painted black.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks CVT... I wasn't aware that the alternator had a cooling line. As for the engine... It isn't mine. It is only a reference picture I found on the web.

Yeah I noticed. Otherwise I was going to recommend sanding off that surface rust in the engine deck. That would drive me to drink.
