No affiliation, but I was at the Porsche dealership this evening and my sales showed me a 2005 Carrera2...probably one of the lowest priced ones in the country. It's one owner, no accidents, and had a new engine replaced by Porsche back in 09...

Ask for John Edwards, he's great and will take care of you. He said the price is negotiable...

hey pong,

I plan on visiting that dealership this week. Interested in one of their 911s too.

Do you know John well? Hoping for a salesman who is fair.

Some of their pricing is good but on others it's high IMO.

I would not be so skeptical about the car based on price alone. I would not be surprised if got offered 34K on that car for trade in (based on a >1 year search for my own, talking to friends who have traded in theirs, and occasional access to auction prices). At 38K he's probably making a small profit. At 44 he's getting into dealer territory. In fact, there's an 06 Cab with ~35K miles for CPO listed at $46K in Fort Myers.

Make sure it is not a "flood" car. Can you get a look at the title? If it is marked "Salvage" run away.

I bought my Cayman from them a while back - Kieth Bietter is also a stand-up guy that I would not hesitate to buy from again..

I agree, after doing a LOT of online shopping the last month or so and seeing some local examples. You guys are in car deal HEAVEN in FL!!! Not just P cars, but lots of cars and trucks. Take advantage of it! Just don't get taken advantage OF.

Hello y'all,

Thanks for all your inputs. He's had the car for 2.5 years, so I don't think he's making any money, just wants to buy an Ariel Atom to track. However, while I was waffling, he made an agreement with another guy who is flying down to see the car. That's fair. I'll keep looking...

Pong, the car in Dallas definitely scares me (why was the engine replaced?). How negotiable could they be on that price? It's definitely the lowest-priced 997 I've ever seen.

Thanks again for all your help. I'll find one eventually. I'm also very interested in a 964 Turbo or 930. I know I know, more expensive to maintain, less horsepower, harder to drive, etc. But you never forget your first drive in a 930!!

Thanks,
Matt

That car has a ton of miles on it. High miles and 911's hurt the value significantly. I'd rather spend another $10k and get a low miler.

Agreed. After market stereo's, etc. is a big red flag and tends to suggest the car was driven by a young person who may have done an array of modifications.

Yea, John is very fair and will work with you on any of the cars you're looking at. He will be straight up with you and no sales gimmick. Give him a call, you can reach him directly at 213-308-7707. Hope that helps!

Where is the car currently titled? In Florida, you can "wash" a salvage tiltle and make it seem like it has a clean history.

Hmm. In short, market has spoken.

I'm in Texas and have been lurking and looking for my first 997. That price is pretty in line with what things are actually selling for in a private party sale. Maybe prices in Texas and Florida are deflated.
