Default “PSM Failure” after battery disconnect..

So last night I was reading on Heated Seat’s not working (mine are not working) and saw where you could reset your computer by pulling the neg cable and let sit for a few hours. Well I disconnected the cable last night before going to bed with thoughts of reconnecting before going to work. So this morning I reconnected the cable and started the car and got a code of “PSM FAILURE” with the yellow caution triangle on my gage. So I did some research this morning and Googled the problem and found that if you disconnect the cable again then reconnect it and then drive for a minute above 35 then this will clear it. Is this correct? I’m going to try it tonight. So if anyone could help that would be much appreciated. Thanks again..

Correct. Message will clear once you drive the car.

+1, happened to me a couple times. Not to worry! Also, if you need to get the car inspected, you will need to put some miles on it for the ECU to reset. In NY for example, everything is electronic, so can't get away with the old skool sniffer. Not sure about Y'all down south.

Does the heated seat button light up when pressed. Is it both seats that don't work?

Yea neither one works nor do the lights come on.. That's really all I've done at this point. I also have not tried it since resetting the ECU. I' will do that tonight when I get home.

When you do a diagnostic DON'T ASSUME anything, you need to find evidence. And you always start with the simplest causes like checking your fuses,relays...then connection...check for power at the connector etc.

Thanks neanicu.. I looked briefly at the fuse chart last night and didn’t see a listing for a fuse. I also looked in the owner’s manual or the location of the relay and couldn’t find that either. I will try tonight and spend more time on it tonight.. Thanks all..

It's doucmented in the owner's manual. You don't have to disconnect and reconnect the battery a second time. Don't forget to reset your windows too.

Putting vehicle into operation
After the battery is connected or after an exhaustively
discharged battery is charged, the multifunctional
PSM light lights up on the instrument
panel and a message appears on the on-board
computer to indicate a fault.
This fault can be remedied with a few simple
steps:
1. Start the engine.
2. With the vehicle stationary, perform a few
steering movements to the left and right and
then drive a short distance in a straight line
until the multifunctinal PSM light goes out and
the message on the on-board computer
disappears.
3. If the warnings do not disappear, then:
Drive carefully to the nearest authorized
Porsche dealer.
Have the fault remedied.
4. After the warnings disappear:
Stop the vehicle in a suitable place.
f Perform adaptation of the power windows:
Please observe the chapter “STORING END
POSITION OF THE WINDOWS” on Page 29.

Thanks jhbrennan.. I was wondering if I would need to do this. I had to do it on my 09 E350 when I reaplaced the battery. Well the dealer replaced it and didnt reset the windows or sunroof. Sometimes you have to wonder what they are thinking!!

thanks again.

Since both seats are not working then it's likely a blown fuse, switch, or wiring(hopefully not this one). GL and let us know the outcome.
