Default Michelin Pilot Super Sport (MPSS) tire wear update

Last Sunday, while washing my car, I noticed a slice in my left rear tire. I don't recall hitting anything but I must have because the slice was on the tread and was deep enough that I could see the steel belts.

I took the car to Discount Tire and got a $252.00 prorated credit for the damaged tire and also replaced the other rear tire to keep the rolling diameter consistent on both sides. The rear tires had 7/32 (10/32 is the depth when new) remaining after driving them for 13,200 miles. The fronts have 9/32 with the same mileage.

Based upon the above, projecting the rear tire wear, I should get:
  • 26,400 at 4/32 remaining tread,
  • 30,800 at 3/32 remaining tread, or
  • 35,200 at 2/32 remaining tread, which would be at the the wear bars.

As a reference, I run 33 PSI in the front and 39 PSI in the rear.

I have been very pleased with the ride, grip, and handling of the MPSS tiles.

I thought this might be some useful info for others who are considering the MPSS tires.

Here's a different data point for a set of MPSS with a bunch of track miles. Mine have 4/32" tread left in the rear and slightly more in the front. This is after approximately 5,000 street miles and 2,000 track miles. Obviously the track miles are inflicting the most wear.
