Default Various totally unrelated questions

I just got back from a great drive and camping trip on the Cherohola skyway and the Tail of the Dragon, and realized I'd really like some things for my 997. After driving the car really quickly for the first time I noticed it is really not as sweet sounding as I would like it to be, so I decided I would like slightly louder exhausts. I don't want to get anything aftermarket, but was thinking Carrera S exhausts would be slightly louder. Anyone made the same purchase, and know what parts I would have to change, if it fits perfectly, and what the difference in sound is? Next I realized I need a radar detector, any recommendations? Finally I noticed the center console is badly scratched and I would like a metal replacement. I found this http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...997136cconsole ,but am not interested in paying $848 for "Aluminum Look Finish". Thanks for your help with my random questions.

Search the forum for the "gundo" exhaust modification, it's often referenced as one the best bang-for-your-buck exhaust changes. I believe there are also past posts about repainting the door sill pieces with specific flat black paint, so you might search for "door sill repaint" and consider that same option for your center console. I don't have any advice for the radar detector.

you can paint the console any color you want. But any paint finish will scratch, so unless you take care, it will just happen to the next one you put in it too. I think the alum look will be about the same as just painting your console silver.
I suggest putting on a X pipe and leaving the mufflers alone, then you can put it back when ever you want.

You have a 997.1, correct? If so you don't have the 3rd (center) muffler so a Sharkwerks or Fabspeed crossover pipes won't do much, if anything, to improve your exhaust sound.

You're talking about low restriction cats here which will give you a slight increase in power and should be lowder (haven't heard them persaonally).
Tim's talking about the crossover pipe just after the cats which probably won't give much of a difference.

For radar detector, go with Valentine 1!!

Renzsport,

You are correct. When someone mentions "x pipes," that usually infers the crossover pipes only, not a full exhaust system replacement.

Sorry about that it said Sport Catalytic Converter X-Pipe on their website. Anyone know if this requires you to take off the bumper, or if it will be deafeningly loud (because I use this car as my DD).

For a 997.1:
- Gundo Hack on the exahust...
- Ace Hardware (Fred Meyers?) on the black door sill. It comes off with two hex bolts...
- Replace the center real consul with the aluminum finish - I have in my 06 and there's barely scratch on it. It's near perfect after 6 years...
- Passort 9500 ix...

We can help with console issues - we offer fully painted (and superior finish to Porsche) on rear center consoles. Aluma is less durable - but it's paint, not metal.

Carbon is also available. Email me: eric@bumperplugs.com

Our painted consoles are delivered to you on a core exchange basis (you send your old one back in decent condition), for LESS than the OEM consoles. And our 19 stage factory chemistry will be as durable as the exterior finish on your Porsche.

Exhaust - tough choice, but anything sounding better than stock is going to be aftermarket. I like Tubi on my turbo cab, but there are many good choices.

Radar: I use V1 in most of my vehicles but have the built in K40 in the Porsche. If you want lower cost and decent effectiveness, either Valentine One or Escort 9500.

Thanks for your help, do you offer Arctic Silver consoles, and do they come with instructions? Edit: Same color as the rest of the grey trim

I know you directed this to Eric, but if you decide to get a painted rear center console from Eric, there are many of us here that can help you with "how to..." instructions.

BTW, if you are going to remove the rear center console you may want to consider getting a Short Shift Kit (SSK), either B&M or the OEM SSK. Since you have the rear center console out it will take an additional 15 minutes to swap the shifter. I have done this mod (SSK) to both of my Porsches (previous '04 C2 and current '10 C2S) and I highly recomment it.

Totally agree with the ssk. OEM ssk is an easy swap. Consider an alcantara shift **** and boot too, along with the alcantara ebrake lever.
