Default How to remove climate control unit 997.1

Could someone tell me how to do this? I believe there are some hidden torx screws somewhere. Tried a few searches could not find detailed thread on it. Thanks.

Have you tried looking thru the PET catalog? http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...artscatalogue/ Just select your model and year range.

remove side bolsters, find the torx screws, pull out the unit and undo the wiring t the back. really easy... but if you are replacing it with at new unit, you need to program it with a piwis tester

I bought it from the dealer at list. With 10% PCA discount it comes to $600. The new units have harder plastic ***** that will NOT peel.

You can find it cheaper at Suncoast: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...997ELECTRONICS

Also, here's the post where I detail how I removed mine. I chose to refinish the switches rather than replace the module; $80 vs. $550.

That's interesting, why do you assume they won't just peel again?

Because the switch is now hard plastic, not the tacky almost rubber coating it was on early models. It is that "coating" that peels, subsequently removing the TEMP and FAN logos. Porsche quietly made a change somewhere mid 997.1 production.

The other subtle update is the ECO switch now reads AC OFF. I'm not happy with the look of the refinished switches, so this was the only option for me.

I see. I'm glad to hear at least they changed the switches to be hard plastic again. There's nothing more cheap looking than peeling surfaces on car interiors, and the Germans seem to be responsible for foisting that on their unsuspecting buyers starting around 2000

pretty much if your climate control says AC OFF instead of ECO, you may have the revised buttons. yes, they are hard plastic

When you changed out your climate control unit was it plug and play?

Thanks

I took the Air Conditioning Control Unit apart to paint the buttons. The wife wasn't happy with the finished product. I ordered a new control unit from Suncoast Porsche. I had the wife turn everything off on the control unit before replacement. I installed the new unit and everything works as normal. Dealer wanted $300 to install and they said it had to be calibrated?
Wife is happy so I'm happy. 2006 Cayman S wife's daily driver 67,000 miles.

The hardest part is removing the side panels. See my write up and use the early section for guidance on that. The write up is about my Tooki installation. Do a search.
