CLUTCH NOISE

CLUTCH NOISE
I have noticed a noise from the engine compartment that sounds similar to a failing "fan/power steering belt". The sound occurs after depressing the clutch and only occurs on 1st gear from a complete stop. I was able to reproduce the sound by starting the car on 2nd gear and the sound was definitely more pronounced/loud.
I mentioned it to the dealership and according to the SA, it might be that the clutch is glazed and I need to "scuff it" by doing hard launches.
I have been driving manual tranny for so long but I have not had that issue before. Not sure if I should trust SA's advice. Does it sound right?
Thanks.

Sometimes clutch noises also exist at higher speeds/gears, but are harder to detect with the increased road noise. If you hear a subtle whirring noise between all gears when depressing the clutch, I'd say the throw-out bearing is a possible candidate. That can start to make some noise as it wears out; but you'll only hear it when pushing the clutch in.

My advice then is to take the car in and have the SM and one of his senior techs scuff the clutch a bit by doing hard launches.
Actually it is not hard launches, but probably the clutch wants to be slipped a bit more than usual.
However, I still don't like this explanation and solution but if you take it in and insist that something be done either the clutch will get better or the cure attempt will prove a failure (my WAG) and you can proceed to get the problem addressed correctly.
Try to be a passenger in the car while this is going on so you can pay attention to how the clutch behaves/sounds during this process and if the clutch's behavior/sound improves.
Afterwards have the tech demo you the symptoms are no longer present. Be prepared too to let the car sit overnight at the dealer so you can have the tech demo the symptoms are not present from cold either.
Do not delay. Any work on the car gets a warranty that expires when the CPO warranty expires.
Sincerely,
Macster.

^^^ thanks for advice. I will bring it in for further evaluation. I've only had the car for 6 weeks and driven it about 1,200 miles, hopefully there will be goodwill on dealers end if clutch needs replacement.
