Buying CPO without seeing the car

Buying CPO without seeing the car
I am looking at a 2010 cab that a fellow Renlister is going to check out for me. The car is in South Carolina and I am in Connecticut. Am I nuts not to see the car myself before the purchase - there is no way for me to get down there for several weeks. Any tips?

I bought 3 Cars that way .. I have had them bring it to the dealer for a complete PPI and ask the Service Mgr to do a full review and even do usage report.. Confirm Sev 1 or 2 hits as well.. Im sure we can all trust a fellow rennlist'er .. but piece of mind.. best to know if the breaks are in great shape and overall the shape of the car.. and "how big is that ding or scratch" ? .. get a third party to tell you.. I seen some guys faint on a 1/8 "nic" .. others .. not !
if the car is in great shape and breaks and tires are fine and under CPO .. then perfect .. but..if some minor work is required.. that maybe the time to have a discussion with the seller..based on the facts you received.. not an eyeball..
or as SacTG says above.. for that kinda $$ .. worth flying on a Saturday and take a peek !
good luck.. !.. exciting stuff ..

It depends on how picky you are and how skilled the person is that is inspecting the car. I've seen too many CPO'ed cars which have had bodywork and if you want an accident free car you should either make sure the person inspecting knows what to look for or you should have a professional look at it.

I recently purchased a 997 that is cpo. No PPI. I made dealer use paint meter to confirm no paint issues. Everything looked fine so I bought it. I'm sure I'll get flamed from other members for not doing PPI but my rationale was any mechanical would've been replaced/repaired if needed in order for the car to be considered cpo.

I bought my CPO 2006 997.1 S Cab with 25K on the odometer without a PPI.... But I did get the dealer to send me the FULL DME readout before buying... Put down a deposit over the phone, and then flew there with a one-way ticket and drove the car home. I have now owned the car 17 months and it is my DD. Car is and has been perfect...

It is ENTIRELY up to you, and how picky you are! IF you're ****, and a DENT on the drivers side would drive you CRAZY everyday, you should 100% make the trip before final purchase.
Here's what I recommend:
- Have your friend check the car, send you pics, etc...
- Do ALL negotiations, terms, price, PPI, etc... and come to final price that you feel comfortable with BEFORE flying
- Fly for *just a day*, have them pick you up, look over the car, ensure you haven't missed anything, sign the dotted line if all is alright, and then fly back home and have a good night sleep!

If you don't go and have a lister' look at it make sure they know how to read a paint meter and then use it in multiple locations on every panel, door, etc. It won't read the bonnet correctly as it is aluminum. CPO'ed cars are allowed a repainted panel.
