single mass flywheel
Anyone using one in their DD? What are the tradeoffs? Does transmission wear worsen as a result, and how is drivability affected?

I'd love some feedback on this as well
As I understand it the dual mass is designed to take on some of the dampening normally done by a sprung clutch
Therefore using a 997 oem clutch with a lightened flywheel isn't a good idea as the clutch is not damped like a clutch on a non dual mass flywheel car
That makes me think a new clutch would be needed.
The gen 1 gt3 rs has a lightened flywheel from memory so I wonder if the clutch from that would be suitable?

it is plain bad for those street motors. you can put in sprung suspended sachs clutch - stage 2 or stage 3 and lightweight flywheel, you will get rattles from it and for DD you will hate it most likely a clutch will be very tight and not good for bad bumper to bumper traffic.
it is a track only mod. it is just my opinion, there are some people who do it for street but imho it is awaste of money for car that will not be tracked.

The dual mass flywheel is used to minimize gear rattle. When used it means one can use a clutch without springs. If you go with a single mass flywheel, you will need a clutch with springs ( otherwise unbearable stop and go driving) and to put up with gear rattle.

no, issue is more serious. stock flywheel compensates harmonic vibrations that crank generates as street M96/M97 engines not getting balanced perfectly.
so when you put lightweight flywheel on a stock 'solid' clutch those harmonics reflect back into crank and if you will get happy enough that crank may crack.
search a bit on this topic and you`ll see pictures of broken cranks.
sprung suspensed clutch partially dampens those vibrations, to less than dangerous level. obviously it all depends of how well your engine was balanced at the factory - those who pay $15K for race engine rebuild get this balancing done as a part of the rebuild process and after that you can safely use light flywheel.
