Just restating the obvious... by design, the windows are supposed to go down a little when you open the door and then go back up a little when you close the door. If your windows don't go back up, then you've got a problem.

Yeah, but that is not what the OP indicated was happening. He said upon turning the ignition key, sometimes the passenger window goes down a couple mm, then back up. I don't think he was referring to the "normal" window function that you described when the doors are opened.

That is correct. My car (sounds like many others too) does exactly the same, ignition on .... then passenger side only window moves. Weird.

My 2007 C4S does not do that. The only time the windows drop is when you open the door handle slightly from either inside or outside.

My C4S does it too. It's the only quirk my 997 has.

My 930 has a million quirks.

Okay I lied!!

My car does it as well but only the first time the ignition is switched on after the door is closed. If you subsequently switch on/off the ignition the window does not move.

If this thread reaches page 3... it's officially a feature.

I'll try to get us close to page 3. Mine does the same thing and I had a thread on this a few months back as well. The fix offered then didn't work, so I just live with it.

15 posts per page.

Five more posts before Porsche AG starts listing it as feature in the manual.

Come on Rennlisters... here's your opportunity to create(document) a feature within our beloved 997. A few more member postings before we hit page 3. The P-engineer who created this will surly make claims to it as a backdoor signature left for those enthusiast who enjoy these cars for their capabilities and their "charms".

However, the following condition will make the passenger window stayed:

You open and close the passenger door before you start the car. Also you can do this the day before and the next morning the passenger window will not move when you start the car.
I don't know how long you need to park the car before this bug can be reproduced. I know I have this issue every morning when starting the car.
I don't remember having this issue when I picked up the car (new) back in Nov/06. I think one of the DME update causes it during the July/07. Starting from that point on, this bug was introduced.

I have this too. This feature appears to be triggered by some yet to be determined criteria as it does not occur each time the key is tuned in the ignition.

OK, I will add to the push to three pages. I occasionally have this feature also. I had it on my two 997.1 cars, and now on my 2012 GTS. I do not know if Porsche has carried this feature over to the 991 as standard, or whether it is now an option. My guess is that is now probably and option with an appropriate price of around $1,500 for such an unusual option.
