there was a thread on rennlist a while back where an owner could barely keep up with the payments, and had it's engine blow shortly after warranty ended.

not only did he have to continue to pay the monthly payments for the car for over a year despite it not having a working engine, the car also got hit by a hailstorm during this time as it sat outside costing another 7-8k worth of body damage. the story goes on and on...
This is what we call a 'financial education'. Otherwise known as extremely poor decision making.
My own $.02: Starting life poor is the best financial education one can possibly have. If you keep your senses and past experience firmly in hand: Such things happen less frequently.

Referring to the original thread: I bought my '03 C4S last year, at the predictable price nadir.
Not because a 991 was out of reach; rather, because I despise new car prices.
If the engine detonates: Then I'm out around $20k. Ouch. But, eminently manageable.
To each his own. But never punch above your weight class, unless you can accept the bruising.
