My car has the 3rd radiator kit because it's equipped with the Powerkit. Now, my brother installed the corresponding version for his former 996 Carrera as a modification prior to bringing it to the track for the first time, as added precaution to keep temperatures in check while tracking. Overall, we think it was a worthwhile modification but don't have any quantifiable evidence of its benefits.

I put one in my 997.2. It's a worthwhile addition for anyone tracking a 997. Suncoast has a really good deal on the 997.1 kit.

good idea to aid in cooling. As others may have mentioned you can get them right now on suncoast website. Great idea.
Should have come standard from Porsche in my opinion

Actually it can hurt. Having the third radiator will slow down the engines warm up when you first start out. Unless you really have a heat problem I wouldn't go to a third radiator. Generally, one thinks that having a third radiator is a good idea, but you have to give it some real thought and it has to be based upon your local driving conditions.

How will a third radiator slow down engine warm-up? The thermostat for the coolant will behave the same way whether there is two radiators or three.
I think anyone living in a warm climate would benefit from the additional cooling.

I know that the oil in the engine is normally cooled by the engine coolant. If I understand correctly the 911 has an additional oil/water heat exchanger. Is this for the engine oil and/or the gearbox?. How is this system connected to the engine coolant system? How independent are the two systems?
Unless it's electrical there isn't another water pump. Is there another thermostat for the oil? This would allow the water pump to pump water through the radiators when the oil temp gets too high even if the water temperature of the engine is okay and the coolant thermostat is closed? Or is it much simpler in that if the thermostat for the water opens then it's assumed the oil needs cooling as well and the water circulates around the entire system?

I installed the same kit front Suncoast last month. Very straightforward. I was concerned that the hoses might leak because there is a bit of play in how they fit but they held tight. I was not used to that type of clamp. Overall very impressed with the quality of parts and completeness of the kit considering the cost.
