Most of the improvement in measured acceleration increase Porsche has made over the last 3 versions of the 997S is a function of the robot tranny and a very effective launch control. The article mentions for example how quick this is compared to the 4.0 RS. It certainly is not the engine that accounts for this, not with the huge output of the 4 liter m1 motor. It's not a significant weight advantage. It is in reality the wonderful world of launch control. The Euro mags post acceleration figures from a roll and in gears. This relates better to real world street performance than the launched drag strip times. And means more to the 6 (7?) speed guys who prefer a clutch. It's all good, but a little misleading if you just read the #'s. Or shift your own gears.
