That's a key vote of confidence as you're so knowledgeable.
I figured it would as well given the 996 hard top can fit on a 997 with just some sort of hardware so the over size and shape must be more or less the same.

I went ahead and looked at my windscreen (06 997S) and found the following part number on it:
997.561.125.01
Whether they simply rolled the part number or not (changed it to a 997 number without a form, fit, function change) is uncertain.
Do you have a part number on the 996 windscreen?
Here's a reasonable suggestion--buy it, try it, and if it doesn't fit, sell it for the same amount to someone on the 996 forum. These things are always in demand, so I would ever anticipate your being stuck with it.
