997 GTS or 991?

If you are really serious about a new car do what I did--go with the second year production of the latest model, and do European Delivery. It's much fun. Also, if you can afford the time, extend your time over there. I think Porsche only insures you for about 2 weeks. I pushed it to nearly 4.

I've saw the 991 at Rennsport Reunion, it's a nice car. I'm sure that in many, many ways it is superior to the 997 GTS but that depends on the definition of superior. Mechanically superior, I suppose so. Aesthetically and emotionally superior, that is exactly The Rub and something you have to decide for yourself (because $90K+ for a car is not exclusively about mechanical ability). Do you want a first year production model (whether or not this is good or bad I won't comment on) that will cost you a premium or do you want to wait another year and see how things shake out? You may or may not feel differently if there is less pressure to make a decision. One thing for certain, the debate on whether or not the GTS is/was a limited production car aside, there will be a lot (no a huge amount) more 991's than 997 GTS's. Like others have said, if you can find a good deal on a GTS lease it for a couple of years to give yourself some time to make a less pressured decision on the 991 - if you're truly on the fence and don't need to be the first on the block to have the shiny new toy. (And if you wait a bit you may actually be able to get a better deal and perhaps even some additional options to choose from.) I think that many of us who bought GTS's knowing that the 991 wrestled with the same quandary - and I'd guess that most of us have no qualms about not waiting.
Good luck! This isn't a "Sophie's Choice"; there are worse decisions to make.

I went through the same thoughts, and ended up with a 2012 GTS. I bought it in late June and didn't want to wait close to a year for a 991S. Plus, I did not want the first model year 991, so I would have been looking at close to two years to get a 991.
I absolutely love my GTS. I am sure the 991S will be a great car, but I do not think I will have any regrets on my decision to get the GTS. It is truly a great car that I plan to keep a long time.

If you need a sport car right now, buy GTS.
If you can afford to wait, then definitely 991. Who doesn't want the newest toy.
If you already have a 997, then just enjoy and there may be no need to trade up as they are all so good.

I'd go 991S, it has only 8 less HP than GTS and you avoid the %$(&ing centerlock wheels.

I definitely WOULD NOT get a NEW GTS, or GTS at NEW prices (demo on the lots, etc)... it's totally not worth it. I opt for either, a CPO GT3, or a nicely discounted used GTS. Otherwise, 991 is a better option for new.

I love my 2012 GTS and if I had the spare dough, would get a second one as a back-up
The 991 made it a classic as others have said.
As an aside, my wife commented that the 991 rear tail lights look like something out of the " Tranformers". I have to agree.
I will def keep her and my GTS!
Do I sound like a GTS snob?
Car was originally derided as a "parts car".
Enjoy drivin what you can.

I would rather have a GTS, then the earliest version of the 991. You know that they will improve/refine it, plus add HP options...the 1st year version will be obsolete before the GTS...plus it looks better.
