"Crank" sound after engaging 1st gear
Sirs: After I am already engaged in 1st gear (right foot on gas, left foot completely off clutch) moving about 5, 6, 7, 8, 9mph and around 1000 to 1100 RPM there is a crank sound that comes from my car, then it goes away.
Also, when after I engage into 2nd gear, let of the clutch completely the same sound occurs, then it goes away.
I do not experience this sound when I cycle through 3, 4, 5th etc.
Any ideas what is causing this?
2006 4S, 60k miles. Thanks in advance.

Lots of low speed running combined with less than the best gas can result in the engine forming deposits that interfere with proper combustion. And if you're running something less than premium octane gas...
But to be safe you should arrange to demo the noise to a qualified tech and get his professional opinion.
If he finds nothing to be concerned about consider running a bottle or two of Techron through the gas tank following the directions on the bottle.
If you are not already doing so, switch to using a top tier gas, premium octane grade (91 or preferrably higher but in many areas of the country 91 is as good as it gets) and buy gas from a busy station.
After using Techron, I like to have the engine oil/filter changed.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Sirs: here is a link so you can hear the sound. After engaging into first gear, foot off clutch obviously, when I press on the gas 8, 9, 10, 11 mph the sound occurs, let off gas let speed slow, then 8, 9, 10, 11 mph sound occurs. I perform this method over and over so you could hear the sound multiple times.
The sound on the link occurs at 9 secs, 14 secs, 18 secs, 22 secs then at 27 secs.
Thank you for your help.

Sort of reads like the engine's being treated to a bit of lugging. The engine may be more sensitive to this due to the the way it has been driven in the past and the fuel you are using.

I will also note that this sound occurs after 1st and then 2nd gear is engaged. It does not occur on 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. gears.

I can definitely hear it. Just before you let up on the gas.
A couple of questions:
Does it do that in neutral when you rev it?
Forget the speed, what are the RPMs when the noise happens?
If you keep the engine at that constant RPM, does the noise continue, or does it go away quickly?

I can hear a faint "thunk" at 9 seconds just before the exhaust sound increases due to the acceleration. The other times it sounds like "froum." I don't know how else to describe it.

the sound consistantly occurs everytime i pass thru 1100, 1200 rpm then stops, a drop below 1100, 1200 it ceases, pass back thru 1100, 1200 rpm the sound occurs.
