Porsche Sport exhaust rattle - any Ideas why- Porsche silent recall ?
I purchased my first Porsche 2 years ago .It is a base Carerra 2006 997
coupe with a 6 speed sport seats and the electronically controlled Porsche
sport exhaust option. I purchased the car from Sun motors a Porsche dealer in PA
with 8200 miles.

expect any issues. It now has 17,000 miles.

a rattling exhaust sound that seems to come from the passenger side of the car it
almost sounds like rivets rattling on metal . It is louder at low rpm's and
seems to come and go . I called my local dealer about it and without looking at
the car they said it might be the flaps which open/ close for the sport option.
The techs first question was the car certified . Have you heard about any
issues with this optional exhaust system ?

recommend going OEM - or are there some other options to consider ?

The early 997.1 PSE had an issue with the bands which are welded on the exhaust to tie components together. They would crack and cause the rattle.

gota911 is exactly on point...I had the same exact issue on mine and I had the strap welded and the problem was solved....no need to replace anything....probably a dealer will never look to resolve it that way....will push to replace the unit....best bet is to find a good independent shop that specializes in german/exotics/etc....its a simple easy fix.

I had the cracks welded - unfortunately it didnt cure the problem . The noise is being caused by the flap in the muffler . I am considering replacing the exhaust with a Fabspeed unit
Any advice/ thoughts would be greatly appreciated- my local Porsche dealer reccomended the Fabspeed system and installs them 2-3X a week - costs about $1200 plus $350 installation
Thank you for your input !
