why not just a button on the 6th gear location to engage 7th?
Kinda like on Trucks

I assumed reverse would be below 7th, in order to avoid a fifth gate.

A dog-leg 1st would be a nice throwback to the 901, but the general public would never tolerate it.

yep^ 997 dash.

i dont see why that layout would be a problem however... then again 5th and 7th might get confusing so some kind of button would be nice, when i go into 5th i always just push right.. which would lead to 7th, unless 7th was WAY over like reverse is.
