Hill Assist - what year did it begin? Do you hate it?
I understand that this feature has been mandatory in Britain for a few years, or at least so a BMW salesman tells me.
It really made me feel uncomfortable for some reason when I test drove a Bimmer with it, but I'm sure it would be easy to get used to.
How long has it been standard equipment on 997s here?
Anyone lived with it and still hate it?

It can be a bit of a pain on steeper grades.

I had BMW's "Hill Assist" on my 07 Mini Cooper S - and loved it! After 85K on the odometer, did not burn through a clutch. I am glad to hear it is on the 911 as well to extend clutch life...
Now putting it on a 911 "GT" car would be ridiculous...

I had no idea the Spyder had it until I was starting on a steep incline. It was the weirdest feeling at first but after a few times I have to say that I really like it. I find myself wondering how much incline is required to actuate it so I'll ocasionally try different inclines until I get acustomed to it.

Not a feature I would seek out, but if it is mostly transparent and prolongs the life of the clutch I can see how it would be a good feature. My wife would like it for sure. Kind of seems like a nanny feature for a "serious" sports, but hey, anything that will help prevent the death of the manual transmission is probably a good thing.

My problem with it is on steep grades. When I let off the brake there is a longer pause than I like. If I start to engage the clutch before it releases I'm working against the brakes. So I find myself waiting for the brakes to release.

I have it in my Subaru but not in my 2007 C2S. I like it and wish my C2S had it. Yes, it saves the clutch. I let my wife drove our C2S up to our friends' house once up some twisty mountain roads (her first time driving on the twisties). Lucky there were no stop signs. She saw our friends 30% grade driveway and kept going until there was a flat spot at the very top of the road, got out, then let me drive it into the driveway.
