Default HANS YES or NO????????

About to do my first DE event. What do you guys think is a HANS device overkill for these types of events?

Thanks for the input

You need to have a roll cage and harnesses before you can safely use a Hans.

So yes, overkill.

I only performed 2 DE's and I concur that it's an overkill. I dont even drive to the fullest capability of my C4S.

The Hans was designed to work with 5/6 pt harnesses, cage or roll bar and racing seats - think of those as a safety system.

For now just get a foam neck roll.....

This is not to say that in the future, after you've done a number of DE events and have advanced up the ranks, that you won't want to consider a full safety setup consisting of roll bar/cage, harness, appropriate seats that will accept a harness, and HANS.

At your first DE event, there is a great likelyhood that you will have gone faster on the highway than you will at the track. Do you wear a HANS on the highway

I will agree with John that if you like this stuff and progress, most usually make the investment to upgrade safety equipment in their cars.

at first DE event your best HANS is your instructor. by the time when you`ll get to blue group to go solo you will know yourself what is it you need.
it is your neck, after all. if you put HANS at your first event I think it will obstruct your comfort way too much and it will affect your driving, if you never did DEs before. plus for HANS you need harness, so you need one for your instructor too, will need seats that take harness - do you have all that already?

Since it is your first event, I would strongly recommend doing there what you are doing here which is talk to people and ask around. Also, get a ride with your instructor. Fellow DEers and racers are the best sources of info...I would also tell you 99% of the people at the track experienced or novice are exteremly resourceful and friendly. They love what they are doing and are always happy to help...

Hans requires a harness bar, 5 or 6 pt harnesses and seats designed for harnesses including the anti submarining belt.

FWIW I wear a Hans

If you want a head and neck restraint but do not use a seat capable of a 5 or 6 point harness then check out the Saftey Solutions R3. I use a R3 while instructing and driving. You do not have to be going fast to have an accident that can hurt you.
