Default 2011 GTS

I'm contemplating the purchase of a 2011 GTS. I run to the local dealer and jump in it for a test ride. The car has 8 miles on it. I don't know how long it has been sitting, but when the engine started there was a terrible rap, like a piston rod, or skirt. (not HPFI) It also had only 3/bar oil pressure cold. After 3-5mins of warm up the rap disappeared. Oil pressure at 3K rpm still never above 3.5 bar. This seems very low to me.

My 2006 seems to always be around 5 bar.

THe question: has anyone experienced this?

Is this normal for the "new DFI" engine?

Do you think this could be contributing to the oil consumption issues?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like there's a serious problem with the motor. Loud rap is not normal!

And you are correct, pressure when could should be at the top of the gauge 5+ bar.

The oil pressure with the DFI engine does not go to the top like 997.1 and prior. 3.5 is normal.

Rodsky-
Interesting. The only time i've seen OP that low was idling after a track session.

JW- this is what I was thinking, i told the sales guy and he looked puzzled. I wanted the car, but now I'll pass on it and find another. Is that a GTS in your avatar?

No others with this engine have seen this??

it was on the forums several times about much lower oil pressures. and mid-gauge pressure you saw is about right.

i heard some DFI cars and did not hear myself nor heard on forums about any rattles from engine. I would definitely go to some other dealers and listened to other cars.

I have done just that. the others had higher OP than this. They sounded better too. I guess I'm not going with the GTS..

I wasn't blown away by it. It is faster than mine, but more civilized. It'll be the GT3 for me.

I didn't think the new DFI engine had the air pump. Does it?

I guess this explains it. The sound from start-up wasn't an air pump it was a true engine rap.

The dealer wrote me today and said there does appear to be a problem with it. Sounded like there wasn't any oil in it, or very little.

It's a great car, but not what I expected. I thought the 50hp from the power kit would be like night and day to my car. that wasn't my observation. I would love to have that X51 on 997.1 3.8, it must sound really nice and pull hard.

Thanks for the thoughts
