I was getting after it a bit and at 7K revs my check engine light flickers on and off for just a few seconds. Plus at the gas station I heard a very slight mechanical knock of some sort briefly and it had me worried. Took it in gently but the damage was apparently already done. Car was perfect otherwise and drove like new.

Now what??? Engine is just before pulling a grenade according to my Porsche mechanic, who literally showed me the metal in my oil and filter. It was shining like flakes of silver. Made me want to puke.
Does anyone have a recommendation other than the obvious "Go buy a new motor" ??
Thank you very much..

How long have you owned it?
What year, model, & mileage?
Where has the car lived throughout it's life?
Any more soot on the left tailpipe than the right?
Are they thinking early stages of IMS failure or bore scoring?
What oil have you been running and for how long?

Lots of info here if you do a search and read through some threads. Are you mechanically inclined and planning to rebuild it yourself? If not, you're best bet is a turnkey, rebuilt motor from RND. These motors are rebuilt with Flat6's and LN's upgraded parts (Nickasil cylinder liners, IMS Solution, etc) and sold with a core charge for your motor. If you want performance upgrades (like a built 4.0), that's a longer waiting proposition where it takes Flat6 about 6 months to turn that around for you.

I picked up the car two years ago in Philly and then was sent TDY for a year returning in July. I hope to put the top down and drive it every nice day for the rest of the year. No IMS issues but I have never owned a Porsche that uses so much oil. Cars and Coffee sounds great let me know the next time it is on.
Cheers,

I'm not sure Sporty.. I can have my mechanic evaluate this a little closer for sure. What the difference? What I mean is why would one metal be magnetic and the other not..
Thank you for you help!!

Please do a search on here to educate yourself, the ims does not contain aluminum/copper which is non magnetic. if it is bore scoring/piston failure then the metal would be aluminum. If your mechanic does not know this much you should reconsider using him-that is the first thing that should be looked at so directionally you have some clue, as there are several modes of failure. Regardless, this is not good - worse case, possibly go for a Jake Raby Flat 6 Innovations motor, more power and almost bullet proof, but around $25K.
