Thoughts?

My guess is that someone has previously painted the part with an enamel based paint. The lacquer will attack this and produce the type of results I see in your picture. To correct this, you will need to remove the enamel paint before painting the part with lacquer.

Mine did tat exactly after a shop had tried some armorall or slick shine type product on my sill plate to "spiff it up". I had to strip it down then use the ACE paint and it looked perfect

Is it possible to remove the logo plate on the outer sill without removing the sill itself. That piece bothers me and I was thinking about painting it but don't want to remove everything.

Mine feels sticky and has deep scrapes, what should I use to clean and prep it?

Did you ever pursue? My salesman warned me about not ordering leather for this area. Simply too much abuse from entering/exiting.

I agree - it's an area subject to lots of abuse...but these guys can do it. They do outstanding work. I had them re-do my visors in leather.

Looking for info on same project with 991. Searched 991 Forum. Found nothing.

So, my question: 996 & 997's have holes to access release screws. 991 doesn't (See images). Anyone know how to remove the sill plate to refurb?

Thanks.
