Replacing the battery has no affect on this problem.

No affect on your problem. Mine stopped and I replaced the battery and all worked again. Sounds like yours has lost sync.

I had the same issue and also tried every iteration possible to get my keys to re-sync. The manual is not very helpful, but I finally stumbled on this approach, which worked great for me:

Lock the doors from the outside by using the key in the door lock.

Unlock the drivers side door using the key in the door lock.

Within about 10 seconds or so, open the door and insert the key into the ignition. DON'T START THE CAR!!

With the key still in the ignition, push the unlock button on the key.

Voila, you should be good to go.

I just started having this issue within the last week and your fix solved my problem just now!

Now that is has happened to me, it is amazing how prevalent this problem is. Thanks for the easy solution.

Thanks DHC! I had replaced the battery, but hadn't been able to "sync". The first time I tried your method, it didn't work. The second, I set off the alarm, but when I put the key in the ignition (not starting the car) and pushed the lock/unlock button on the key it worked. My Key 1 is now working like it had before!!

As you, I've tried every permutation of published steps to re-sync one of my keys. Nothing worked until I tried your procedure.

Bingo, it worked on the first try!!!

I think the main step is to push key unlock button while the key is still in the ignition . . .

Thank you for documenting this procedure for us!

I've have been having this problem as well. Just brought a new battery and it has not worked. I am using the manual key lock process now...but in fear of the alarm sounding if I am not not quick enough with locking the door. I will try your process on the way home from work today...from the looks of everyone else's post, there could be some promise here! thanks in advance!

Tag... I'm sure this will affect me at some point down the road. Thanks for the post and kudos to DHC for the solution. BTW, where did you come across this procedure. I'm surprised it did not include a dead chicken and a shrunken head. LOL

DHC:

Thank you so much for this information! I tried everything too and no success. The worst part is that I bought this car second hand and only have one key! However, your approach worked flawlessly.

Very much appreciated!!!

DHC, many thanks for posting the solution and for the reminder about hibernation!

I hadn't driven the 997 in ~11 days and was only able to open the door this AM using the key. I thought at first she didn't like me any longer but she turned right over after the long slumber and immediately reminded me how awesome she is; that stupid smile has been on my face all day...what an spectacular machine!!!

I guess that I best not neglect her for so long next time, don't ya think?!?!?!

Thanks again and make it a fine weekend!
