Default 2006 997 Stuck Trunk Latch

I pulled some stuff out of the trunk and when I shut it, it took a little more force than normal so I tried to open it and it makes the latch noise like it's releasing but the trunk is not coming up. I tried both my key as well as from the cabin with no success. Is there some sort of manual release? Any suggestions on how I can get the front trunk open?

There's a manual release behind the drivers front wheel. You have to remove some plastic shrouding in the wheel well once you get the wheel off. You will see a small metal cable that can be pulled to release the trunk. Hopefully the latch isn't damaged otherwise this might not work

Thanks for sharing that info. I did see that during my search but since I'm hearing the latch operating when I hit the release button, it seems that I need something or somehow to pull up on the trunk while the trunk is trying to open. The problem is trying to pry it without damaging the paint or worse. I didn't know if anyone else has experience with a problem like this.

The the light prying doesn't work, then I'll remove the wheel and try that before I take it to the shop.

No pry... never pry.

Have you tried the opposite? (Have someone put a LITTLE downward pressure on the hood near the latch while you press the button)

be careful--the hoods are aluminum remember--and can be easily distorted.

anyone ever mod that pull wire to be reachable without removing the wheel and plastic fender inserts? Seems like an easier way to deal with jump starting the car.

Just a thought.

It's a good idea--but everyone should develop their own design. Otherwise, every Tom Dick and Harry will discover it and your front trunk will be secure no more!

good point! I guess our "private" message board here is not the best place to disclose where we hid our secret wire.

I will let you know how I make out, I suffered the same hood problem today, I can hear the mechanism working when I press the car key or pull the lever, but have not tried pushing down at the same time when pressing the hood release buttom Don

OK this is a old post but this jest happened to me today. I shut the trunk lid I heard metal grinding noise. The truck will not open, but I hear the motor for the latch working. I will try the cable release when I get home. I think that the latch is jammed or damaged. Hoping for the best. Is there any new input on this.

Try pushing down gently on the hood just in front of the crest while someone in the car activates the hood release switch. That might be enough for it to "let go".

Got it open with two paint sticks as this thing wasn't opening any other way. The large return spring bent a was holding the latch in place. This will be a latch replacement repair. At least I didn't chip the paint
