Hi all --

Before the parts discount coupon runs out at the end of the month, I wanted to poll for advice about what I might be missing.

I've a new '10 C2S, nicely optioned, about 2 months old, about 1500 miles. I just put 18" wheels/tires on (bought the used 18" Carrera III wheels from a fellow rennlister, the tires are new Pirelli Sottozeros from Tire Rack) on Wednesday and we had snow on Thursday. (BTW, these wheels/tires made the car feel more 'sporty' -- lighter on its feet, and a little quicker-feeling... this was a surprise!)

I've thought about the add-on Sport/Chrono, but don't want to take that route yet -- it's a 6-speed, and doesn't need it particularly, though I wonder about the lighting/locking system adjustments I'd be able to play with some. The accelerator mapping and the traction control possibilities might be fun to play with (I've test-driven cars with it...).

Other stuff I may be missing?

Marc,

I would pass on the Sport/Chrono. If you had a PDK, it is a must. With a manual it really brings no benefit. Save your money for something else.

Did you see the car and driver report a while back? Most smaller diameter wheels actually enhance performance due to much lower unsprung weight. The performance gains were quite dramatic!

Back on Topic, I am in the same boat! I want to buy something with the coupon too! I was originally very seriously considering doing the PSE but I put in the Sharkwerks rear by pass and it sounds very sweet and quite economical too! I am very happy with it so I will pass on the PSE but I still want to get something... The sport button is tempting but I have a 6 speed like you so not sure if I care that much for it. The other options would be MF wheel. Are you considering anything else?

Just looked up the C&D piece -- the numbers in their table don't tell the story as well as driving. I'm wondering if I shouldn't use 18" wheels year-round. I am definitely happy to have them for the winter, when the roads around here will get pretty busted up (not that they get fixed too well for the spring/summer, either).

MF steering wheel isn't a bad idea. Suncoast has it at about $490 for the part -- 36% off http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...e=997s6spe2010. Any idea what the install costs???

That's correct. Suncoast (always the cheapest IMO) will not give 20% off because their prices are already discounted.

Suncoast will work the price both ways and give you the item at the least cost.

I disagree with those who say don't get the sport chrono with a manual. I recently added it to mine and enjoy the ability to remap the throttle response to my taste at the moment. It's fun. It can make the car seem more lively. At the same time, it's nice to be able to turn it off when in traffic. It lets the driver fine tune the car to his/her preference. It's also something most other cars do not have so sets the 911apart.

I asked about the Sport Chrono option when I was looking for my car and based on responses considered it a take or leave it option. I found a nice car without it. Maybe my responders were commenting on the dash timer which I would never use, but I regretted not having the other sport chrono functions and am glad I was able to add it later.

Speaking of add-ons, one of these days I would like to add the stitched leather center armrest with Porsche crest.
