It is interesting to observe how much the 911 has changed.

when you seen the intermediate stages (between that 1972 911S Targa) and a 2010 S it's less dramatic.

Put the 996 in there (front view of course) and I promise you'll squint and cringe and think OMG what were they thinking...

Very nice follow-up posts and pictures guys. Love the MINI one too. Adias, how appropriate your avatar is for this thread. Here is another shot from the back. That one is a viper green 72 targa BTW. Love the duck tail, targa script and PORSCHE lettering

The newer cars are attractive, but not necessarily an improvement.

Actually, in an odd way, the higher the drag, the more character a car has.

I loved the old "long nose" 911s. I was so ticked off in 1974 when they changed the bumpers! Progress!!

IMO the 993 was definitely the transition year...between the beautiful 964 and the "water pumper" 996. It really looks to me as the one without a home...a lot in common with the older bodies, but starting to make more aerodynamic changes seen in the 996.

They are all awesome...but yeah, having a 996 I do like the 997 headlights better.

and Cool "Evolution" photos (all of them here: http://www.renestaud.com/shop/en/por...356-p-105.html )

Disagree completely. Prefer the looks and tradition of a 997 but dont think I'd "squint" or "cringe" or "OMG" over a 996. I think a 996 40th anni or C4S are very attractive cars.
