MY09 windshield washer not working...

Ran out of washer fluid, filled it shortly thereafter, and now the right washer barely sprays and the left not at all. Up to this point all was working flawlessly. Nozzles appear to be ok...any easy fix? Thanks all!

Did the hose disconnect? I had the same problem and discovered that the hose had slipped off the connection barb and was spraying washer fluid in the battery compartment. Reconnected the hose and secured it with a zip tie. Location was at the back of the battery compartment.

I'll have a look. Whats strange is that it seemed to be related to the reservoir being empty, though now that you mention it...it might not have been empty and the problem was the hose being disconnected giving the appearance of being empty...it did take a bunch of fluid... but once again, I was assuming it was empty...didn't consider the hose a possible culprit all along. Man alive...I don't even want to admit missing this one...its been a long week. Thanks a million. Will post my findings!

Here is a diagram of the washer system. On mine, hose 16 detached from the tee (18)

I have also heard this to be a problem with 996 cars--so as the 997s age they may fall victim to the same parts failure--as the hose simply falls off the end and you wind up squirting the battery compartment!

PERRRFRCT!!! Got to it today. As you described and per the diagram..#16 was disconnected from # 18. Thanks a million. Simple fix!

Had that happen with my old 94 VW Golf as well... time, the aging of synthetic parts and pressure...

Minok...problem it that this is my NEW car! Hey either way, it's no big deal...an easy fix and info out to everyone.

The knowledge base and experience you guys have with these cars is amazing. The sales and service guys at Porsche would do well to read through this site one in a while.

Well, you know, to get the washers to operate properly so you can use them at 160mph requires a lot more pressure than my VW Golf would have needed... :)

i MAY have the same issue with my 997.1

- resevoir tank completely full
- i hear some sort of motor noise when i activate the windsheld washer
- wipers work
- nothing sprays.

will check this solution above tomorrow morning when there is light outside *keeping fingers crossed*

thanks in advance!

you guys are the best.

i turned on the wipers 10 times and the headlight washers did spray no problem. from there i popped up the frunk and compared what i saw to the the above diagram.

while not 100% identically to the 997v2 diagram above... #18+#15 disconnected for my 997.1

hose 15 is normally held in place by clipping into a plastic panel; but somehow became loose from the panel, was able to move around 'freely' and hence disconnected from the T joint. ill likely try to see if i can use a plastic zip tie to hold the hose in place to the panel to make sure it doesn't happen again.

THANK YOU rennlist.

ps. the biggest PITA when doing is trying not to touch the battery!

I've seen this on other cars too, where the hoses pop loose so the washer fluid just sprays internal in the cowling. My VW had very small (hose sized) spring clamps... I think you can buy such clamps at hardware stores as well.
