Smoke on start up?

I notice if I leave my 997 parked in the garage - unused for a week or more when started it emits a brief plume of blueish smoke. Its only a short plume and varies in density. It only happens at startup - as soon as the engine is running a second or two its gone.

It does not appear at startup when warm or when the car is being used regularly. Neither is there any sign of smoke on hard acceleration.

So is this common? Why would it only be happening when the car is left in the garage for a week or more.

My TR6 does this too - and has been at it for 17 years with no ill effects. I am not exactly concerned about it but would like to know if others experienced the same.

Pretty normal. You sometimes can minimize it by idling the car for 30 sec or so before turning it off, especially if you come in "hot".

I generally drive the last two miles easy ( light throttle no high revs) to cool it down as much as possible. Some cars, however, just smoke on startup.

When you park it for the day idle it for about 2 min.
