What age are you 997 owners?
I just wondered what the average age of 997 owners is here.
I am 51 but still feel like I am 25. I would not associate my 997 purchase as a mid life crisis like many around here like to do as I have always owned unusual interesting cars. Its just now I can afford more upmarket stuff. |
59 and still kickin.
|
Me
48 and staying healthy,wise....and this is not a mid-life move:biggulp:

|
38, got my first one at 34, and this one last year
|
On my first p-car at 38. Look 48 and feel 70 :-)
|
36, I got my P car a little over a year ago.
:D: |

|
Was a car nut way before I could drive. Owned some other interesting cars but my first Porsche was a new '84 Carrera, and have driven a Porsche since. Just turned 60. Still a car nut.....

May need to get me a I will work for Porsche sign. |
52, but I bought my first Porsche at 41. I know have 6 Porsches presently (1958 356, 1957 speedster, 1986 944 turbo-track car, 993 TT, 2004 GT3RS, 2008 Cab superchared/Techart). I have owned a total of 9 in 11 years. Pure addict. Sold a 1985 Carrera, 1979 SC wide body, 1987 Slant nose 930 Turbo. More to come, but don't tell my wife.
|

|
43.

Got my first Porsche, a 2001 Boxster, in 2001 at age 40.
Got my second and third Porsche in 2005 (a 2005 Coupe, and a 2005 Cab) at age 44. Will be buying my fourth Porsche sometime this year, at age 49 or 50, depending on which month I buy, but I haven't decided what to buy (or lease). YoungTurk |
So far...
Min Age: 24 Median Age: 38 Average Age: 42.44 Max Age: 60.00 |

|

|
54, and don't feel a day over 70
|
48 and had my first Porsche (993 C2S) at 41...always had fine european cars since I was 34.
When a wise cracking new acquaintance makes a jab re mid-life crisis, I respond with: "Confucius say, mid-life crises are for those who can afford to have one...those who can't must grow old gracefully." Ha!!! |
52 here, purchased my first C2S 09 last year.
I like to think this is part of an on-going mid-life crisis, started with two E46 M3s in 2004, and hopefully will continue well in my 80s! |
50 here. I have been a member of the club for 4 years. I bought mine when times were good.
|
33. Got mine nearly 2 birthdays ago and every time I see it in the garage, I still feel like it's the first day.
...my only regret is that I held out so long from getting one (thought it would be too flash). :D |
50. Went into Manoporsche almost 2 years ago.
|
37
|
I'm 62 and have owned Porsches since I'm 40!

Just picked my 1st Porsche up last month at 29.
|
I'm 36 now. Got the first one ('88 Carrera 3.2) at 29, and sold it at 31. I'm really surprised at 1)the number of young(er) people on here, and 2)the bimodal distribution (not too many in their 40's; we all seem to be 20's/30's or 50's/60's).
|
Never going back
51, never going back

My guess on this is that a lot of us young folks are taking advantage of the used market for 997's. This puts them in the range of young professionals and "internet people" (speaking for myself, I am hardly "professional" in the standard definition of the word :D ) Personally, I was looking for a "grown up car" after years of saving and working hard. I started out looking for a BMW, but quickly decided I wanted something "different" (it almost seems like they issue a new 328 as part of the "new hire package" for many law firms in California). A carefully-chosen 30k mile 997 is just as bullet-proof as a new BMW and actually less $ out the door. The classic styling also ensures that my 997 will still "look good" even with the 997.2 and upcoming 998/991 appears over the horizon and still miles better than any BMW past or present. For me, it was a very very easy choice. I'm not the type to want to "fit in", and the 997 does the job without looking too flash (the way a 355 would). |
First 911 three months before I turned 19 (crashed it in four days, another story).
28 now and there will always one in my garage. |
31 for now...
|

44 now, first 911 last year. Best car ever!
|
Im amazed at the strong brand loyalty which is apparent in the posts so far and how many (like me) saw the Porsche 997 as a must have before a certain age. :typing:
|
48, had to move to Europe and it makes much more sense to drive a Porsche here.

New stats... very surprising for me...
I highly suspect there's a lot more 911 drivers in their 40s and 50s, however, they probably not hanging out on this forum much! :) |

|

38 here in RI..
|
67 and on my 5th Porsche since my 356C
|
To clarify, bought my '05 at 31, GT3 at 33. Now 36.
|
47 here and counting. First P-car was a beloved and not forgotten 964 back in 1990
|
You have to consider the "sample" for your stats. This is an online forum, and I would suspect that older Porsche owners are under represented because they are not online. Take the average age of 'net users in general and you'd get similar numbers.
Anyway, 38...had the car for 2 years. J |
39 years old and no midlife crisis here!
What I want to know is how old your partner is? My wife is 38 but two of my brothers have partners way younger. Let me guess the average age of Porsche car partners is at least 5 years younger. |

60. Feel younger except for the knees which are not behaving themselves.
First Porsche at 42. |
46. First Porsche was a 2002 Boxster S at 38.
|
Bought my first 911 (90 964 cab) at 33. Just sold that and bought an 06 C2S coupe at 44. Bought a 944 track car about 8 years ago, and I like the idea of always owning at least one 911. My first was more than a car, but eventually it got to be pretty long in the tooth. I put 100k miles on it myself, for a total of 157k.
Since people are talking about their first cars, I bought a 69 bug for $200 at age 16 with paper route money. I always bought my own cars, paid my own insurance, gas, repairs, etc. Parents paid my tuition to school (HS and college were ~$1500/year back then) and I'd have had to take loans if I went to a more expensive school, but I never got (nor asked) for any handouts after age 16 or so. |
41 now but 1st P-car at 35 with a 996. Addictive isn't it?
|
56 look 50 feel like I'm 65 wish I was 30

The use of the word "first" sounds better when used about Porsches rather than wives... |

|
At age 15 walking down the board walk in La Jolla, CA I saw a 1977 Turbo Carrera, with that fat whale tail. From that day on it has been my goal to own one! At age 48, this Tuesday, my dream will come to fruition!

Just turned a big 70 3 weeks ago. First 71 911T at age 29, in 1970, followed by 76S targa in 1980, a 92 964C2 in 1997, a 2006 new 997S and finally, my 09 latest 997S PDK last year.
Ordered a BMW in 1970, it never came in and went to an Audi/Porsche to ck Audi's, the salesman asked if I had ever driven a Porsche, I said no" Jags and Vettes, he said lets go for a ride, We were getting on a cloverleaf to the highway and he kept saying step on it, I did and have been hooked, ever since.... |
26 and just bought my first 997, I've had a poster since I was 8!!

56 and on my 4th 911 "variant" Porsche.

Currently have an '05 987S, wife's car, and an '11 Carrera GTS. My '88 Carrera is two houses down the street, having been purchased by my neighbor 6 years ago. |
30 yrs. and 1st Porsche (997) in Jan. '11. I shouldn't have waited this long - have a feeling there will always be one in the garage.

- new sports car - wanna run away and go back packing through europe with my secretary - want to take up guitar and vocal training. lol.. seems like mid-life too me :) |
I currrently oun a 2008 Porsche Cayman S and am looking for 9112S or 4S. I am 73 look 63 and feel younger than I should.
|
My third at 63 years young and it just gave me the best summer since I was 12!
|
Age 32.
I was always into cars, but P-cars were always number one choice. Thank god I managed to buy my first one, a 2009 c2, this March. However, as a buddy of mine said, this creates a problem. I don't think I will ever look at another car, brand other than Porsche. This brand can have this effect on you! LOL |
26 - had it since 24

I hope you are not implying that the Cayenne is not a "genuine Porsche" whatever that means.

32 first Porsche one month ago, been fantastic so far. Was 30 when I bought first Ferrari.
|
60 something...In Dec I bought my 6th new Porsche since 1983. Yes that was 1983.
I don't drive it much. My 06 C2 was traded with 18,541Kms(11,495mi) after five years. I don't know if it's my last one but if it is, I will keep it until I croak. I just love owning one of these cars even if it's only to look at it. |
32 years, 7 months, 6 days.
Wife is 25 and she just got her first Porsche! |
65 and surfing santa cruz 3-4 days a week. Always drove what I mistakenly thought were great cars. Took a test drive in factory go fast optioned c2s and I had a reset on what a great car should be. What really blows my mind is "this is not special" this is how every car comes out the factory door. As perfect as can be done to the very highest standard.
|
I think I still hold the record: My 5th Porsche at age 73.
|
Age 55, total of six P-Cars started at age 44. Now have (2) GT3's and a 09 boxster for my wife.
Neighbors surely think I'm crazy..... need to part from one of the GT3''s, I love these cars! |
48, I pick up my first Porsche this week, a low mileage 2007 Carrera. Started with a Saab EMS, followed by a string of sport bikes and more recently the dark years with small econoboxes while we dealt with Vancouver real estate prices which over the past 5 years have gone up > 100% and ~ $250K alone in the last 5 months.
|
Age 55, had a Porsche in the garage now since 1984
1978 911SC 1984 911 Cabriolet 1991 911 964 Carrera 2 1995 911 993 1997 Boxster 1999 911 996 1996 911 Turbo 2001 911 Turbo 2004 911 GT3 2005 911 997 2007 911 GT3 2011 Boxster Spyder 2011 Cayenne Hybrid |
My Mom bought me my first 911 when I was 15 (birthday gift) but I couldn't drive until I was 16.
I've had many many since then! |
Got a 2008 Boxster S, special ordered by me, with all the goodies when I was 36. Now 38 and wondering what to get for my 40th...
|
52, with 2 997's. First Porsche at 30.

|
got my first p-(toy) car at 8 - a remote controlled 928 and was hooked to the name. Took me a good thirty years to get the bigger toy, now I'm hooked to the machine...

44 yrs old. bought Mitzy (2005 C2 997.1) last year...brings a smile to my face every time I open the garage door.

33, 997 c2s mt + 987 cayman s mt
|
42; got my first p-car at 40... which really makes it seem like a midlife thing, although it didn't start out that way. When I was turning 40, my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I told her I didn't really want anything. She said I should go look at cars... and it should be a 911 so the whole family could ride in it. Can't argue with that.
|
44, first porsche @ 43 ... wish i hadn't waited so long!
|
32. Bought my 2006 C2S 2 yrs ago as a 30th birthday present to myself.
|
41, first Porsche. I guess it was the right time
|
I turned 40 this year, got my C2 in 2009. Still cannot decide if I want to upgrade it or not so for now just drive it whenever I can. Wanted to make myself a present in the form of 991 gt3 but lost interest after learning of what it really is. So now it probably will be more modding and probably major engine work in the future. :)

44 , sure that if we would held this poll here in China, we couldn't find any 911 owner elder than 25 :D
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to ride that pony, champagne in one hand, chocolate covered strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO - what a ride!" :bigbye: |

51. Porsche 2006 c4s
|
Started out with a C2 (2001) in '01, next came the C2S (1998) in '07 followed by the C2Turbo (1992) in '12, and now a C4S (2010) in '13. Self-employed (still working) and will turn 69 next month.:burnout:
|
This thread has over 12,000 views and just over 200 responses. Be interesting to see how the numbers would trend if everyone replied... I'm 43. Maybe people would be more forthcoming if it were a poll?

My what started out as a 997 (it is now pretty much a kit car) was my 39th (and supposed to be my last Porsche) but at 56 the Panamera 4S sitting next to it is #40. I think I was 22 when I got my first (sorry too many dead concerts my memory is gone) Porsche. All the Ferrari's the Maserati's, BMW's and the Lambo are gone but I have not been without a Porsche for 44 years. Funny my first novel had a Ferrari in it I think because I had just sold my 430 gear shift coupe which in my humble opinion was the last Ferrari worth owning!

First Porsche at 31 .... first 911 at 34 ... :D
