I just wondered what the average age of 997 owners is here.

I am 51 but still feel like I am 25. I would not associate my 997 purchase as a mid life crisis like many around here like to do as I have always owned unusual interesting cars. Its just now I can afford more upmarket stuff. :cool:

Was a car nut way before I could drive. Owned some other interesting cars but my first Porsche was a new '84 Carrera, and have driven a Porsche since. Just turned 60. Still a car nut.....

I'm 35 and just got my first Porsche. I look 45 and feel 12.

I have owned a total of 9 in 11 years. Pure addict. Sold a 1985 Carrera, 1979 SC wide body, 1987 Slant nose 930 Turbo. More to come, but don't tell my wife.

57, 1st P car 5 days ago. Various euro sports cars and bikes over the last 4 decades.

Just picked my 1st Porsche up last month at 29.

I'm 36 now. Got the first one ('88 Carrera 3.2) at 29, and sold it at 31. I'm really surprised at 1)the number of young(er) people on here, and 2)the bimodal distribution (not too many in their 40's; we all seem to be 20's/30's or 50's/60's).

Good observation.

My guess on this is that a lot of us young folks are taking advantage of the used market for 997's. This puts them in the range of young professionals and "internet people" (speaking for myself, I am hardly "professional" in the standard definition of the word :D )

Personally, I was looking for a "grown up car" after years of saving and working hard. I started out looking for a BMW, but quickly decided I wanted something "different" (it almost seems like they issue a new 328 as part of the "new hire package" for many law firms in California).

A carefully-chosen 30k mile 997 is just as bullet-proof as a new BMW and actually less $ out the door. The classic styling also ensures that my 997 will still "look good" even with the 997.2 and upcoming 998/991 appears over the horizon and still miles better than any BMW past or present.

For me, it was a very very easy choice.
I'm not the type to want to "fit in", and the 997 does the job without looking too flash (the way a 355 would).

First 911 three months before I turned 19 (crashed it in four days, another story).

28 now and there will always one in my garage.

You have to consider the "sample" for your stats. This is an online forum, and I would suspect that older Porsche owners are under represented because they are not online. Take the average age of 'net users in general and you'd get similar numbers.

rents paid 2k down payment on my honda civic when i was 16 so i could get the loan... since then been all up to me... i went from civic to s2000, to G35, to 997.1 and then 997.2... only problem with being so young and family not willing to cosign is getting a loan.. PCNA wouldnt finance me on either car so i was forced to buy outright.. so that makes it harder to justify a turbo since id have to buy it outright...

Bought my first 911 (90 964 cab) at 33. Just sold that and bought an 06 C2S coupe at 44. Bought a 944 track car about 8 years ago, and I like the idea of always owning at least one 911. My first was more than a car, but eventually it got to be pretty long in the tooth. I put 100k miles on it myself, for a total of 157k.

Since people are talking about their first cars, I bought a 69 bug for $200 at age 16 with paper route money. I always bought my own cars, paid my own insurance,gas, repairs, etc. Parents paid my tuition to school (HS and college were ~$1500/year back then) and I'd have had to take loans if I went to a more expensive school, but I never got (nor asked) for any handouts after age 16 or so.

I currrently oun a 2008 Porsche Cayman S and am looking for 9112S or 4S. I am 73 look 63 and feel younger than I should.

My third at 63 years young and it just gave me the best summer since I was 12!

I was always into cars, but P-cars were always number one choice. Thank god I managed to buy my first one, a 2009 c2, this March.

However, as a buddy of mine said, this creates a problem. I don't think I will ever look at another car, brand other than Porsche. This brand can have this effect on you! LOL

Thank you Mike. When people like you who have driven 5 times more "real sports cars" than I ever have get excited about the Cayenne ...it says a lot to me. I'm sick and tired of seeing these posts that play on the psyche of others. Some of us are more gullible that others whenwe read posts like these and that just takes away the pride of ownership of that particular vehicle, be it a Cayenne or Panamera or whatever...

I'm happy enough with my base 997. 325 hp is quite enough for me. Not looking for anything else. :cool:

32 first Porsche one month ago, been fantastic so far. Was 30 when I bought first Ferrari.

60 something...In Dec I bought my 6th new Porsche since 1983. Yes that was 1983.
I don't drive it much. My 06 C2 was traded with 18,541Kms(11,495mi) after five years.
I don't know if it's my last one but if it is, I will keep it until I croak. I just love owning one of these cars even if it's only to look at it.

65 and surfing santa cruz 3-4 days a week. Always drove what I mistakenly thought were great cars. Took a test drive in factory go fast optioned c2s and I had a reset on what a great car should be. What really blows my mind is "this is not special" this is how every car comes out the factory door. As perfect as can be done to the very highest standard.

I think I still hold the record: My 5th Porsche at age 73.

Age 55, total of six P-Cars started at age 44. Now have (2) GT3's and a 09 boxster for my wife.

Neighbors surely think I'm crazy..... need to part from one of the GT3''s, I love these cars!

Third 997 Porsche S 2005 at age 38 - this year 2013

First P-car when I was 18, a '74 911 Targa. Now I'm 48 and on my 4th P-car (first 997 though)

51. Porsche 2006 c4s

Started out with a C2 (2001) in '01, next came the C2S (1998) in '07 followed by the C2Turbo (1992) in '12, and now a C4S (2010) in '13. Self-employed (still working) and will turn 69 next month.:burnout:

This thread has over 12,000 views and just over 200 responses. Be interesting to see how the numbers would trend if everyone replied... I'm 43. Maybe people would be more forthcoming if it were a poll?

It's a 996, but gonna post here anyway, since my next purchase will be a 997.

I'm not so faithful to Porsche. Changed a lot of brands.
My first Porsche was a 993 when I was 27.
Second a 996 when I was 35.
Third a 997 when I was 43.

30 yr , first P-car is boxster at 29 , now with 997 !

My what started out as a 997 (it is now pretty much a kit car) was my 39th (and supposed to be my last Porsche) but at 56 the Panamera 4S sitting next to it is #40. I think I was 22 when I got my first (sorry too many dead concerts my memory is gone) Porsche. All the Ferrari's the Maserati's, BMW's and the Lambo are gone but I have not been without a Porsche for 44 years. Funny my first novel had a Ferrari in it I think because I had just sold my 430 gear shift coupe which in my humble opinion was the last Ferrari worth owning!

Got my 997 earlier this year, a decade before i thought i would/could. The wife took one look at the 997 and said we got to have it. Im 32

Wished you guys are around here, would love to hang around people my age. All I see is guys older than 55 around here driving 997s, 996 has a lot more younger crowd but I'm just not into 996's.

My wife and I are both 62, married 40 years. We were 60 when we bought our 911. Always wanted one, finally can afford one!
