Changing the 997.2 engine air filters
#33
What about cleaning the other air intake?
I would recommend removal (2 X 20 Torx screws) and cleaning of fine air filter on backside of engine air filter housing. Mine was fairly dirty on alternator side.
Clean again.
After removal

thank you OP for the instructions as well as the others who chimed in on how to remove the plug on the right for the 997.2 models.
Did this today and its a very easy diy. I also cleaned out the throttle body as it was slightly dirty. Both can be easily done in about 45mins including cleaning around the air box.
Unfortunately forgot to take a pic of the clean filters
Dirty filters
Cleaned around this area and the throttle body

Anybody know a trick for retrieving one of airbox screws? I dropped the one closest to the deck lid release. Tried for a while with a magnet but no luck. It's somewhere under the airbox. Can a loose screw in that location causes any issues?

I did exactly the same thing but a different screw location. Fished around for a while with a magnet but couldn't get it. Been driving around like that for 6 months now with no issues. Will just get a new screw next time I'm at the dealer.

No need to remove vacuum hoses
I have just changed the air filters on my 997.2 C4S and after struggling with removing vacuum hoses on the grey unit figured out that it can be easily removed with all connections unmolested. The central upper part of the grey unit is a clip. To remove the grey unit, gently pull up on the far end (toward the front of the car) of the central tab, then slide the grey unit toward the rear of the car. Set it off to the side while you remove the air filter cover.

Thanks to this thread, replaced both filters and unclipped the electrical connector easily. However small whistle from the engine compartment now. I assume that one or both of the filters have not seated correctly. I noticed that upon fitment of each filter, I had to push the filter in and hold it in, to line up the securing screw on both. I should have started the engine first before screwing back on the cover to see if there were any issues. So I am going to take the cover off, and start the car, locate the whistle and refit, hopefully, this is the issue. Pretty certain it is.

I'd stay away from K&N because using the oil can easily damage your MAF sensor and I don't know how effective they are if you use them without the oil spray. For those who like them I think that is great - I find it easier to replace the filter than spending the time cleaning one.

Just replaced filters.
Cabin filter - there’s a cable running over right part of filter. Unclip to get out of the way. Remember to clip it back!
Engine air filters - was really worried how to get rearward screws out without dropping into engine bay by my xxxl hands. I could hardly get my fingers in there much less manage a screw. Took out the 4 screws nearest cabin, then loosened rear ones. Started pulling the cover up, loosened each screw more keeping cover lightly against the screw heads. When they all were unscrewed I lifted cover off. Installed same way. Much easier and safer for me than trying to get screws out with cover installed. I was also concerned on getting plug off box. Got lucky, last time dealer did major service and replaced filters they didn’t clip it back in place. Just sitting there. So I installed same way, just sitting there lol.
Overall a really simple job, even for my limited abilities!
