Default Paint respray

Hello,

My black 997 has a ton of rock chips particularly on the hood. I will be getting an estimate for prefessional dent/scratch repairs but I was wondering if anyone has done a full respray of their car and if it's worth it.

If I were to do it, I would use the exact same color.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Thank you.

the whole car would be incredibly expensive. just do the hood. probably $800 - $1100, maybe less

and slap a clear bra on the front bumper

There is no way in hell I would have any body shop
repaint my entire car if it didn't need it.

They'll screw up enough by just doing the hood.

BTW, if you go that route IMO unbolt it and bring only the hood to them.

That is a great idea. I would do that also.

Ok thanks.

I'll see what the dent repair center says first about going down the simple touch-up path. If that will remove some of the bigger chips, I might stay with that.

Thanks,

Don't waste your time on touch-up. 100 touch ups will call more attention to the problem. You are looking at a re-spray and you don't have to remove your hood and bumper skin and bring just those to the shop. If so, you need a new body shop with professionals that understand and work on Porsches.

Excellent respray is preferred. OTOH touch up paint is formulated like Bondo. You can mess with it quite a bit once it has dried. Excellent invisible results can be had however it takes practice. Here's a link, just a link, not sure if this is the best website.

Im going thru a similar situation where I may repaint the front bumper prior to a clearbra.
Heres what i would do:
1. take several close up photos and keep it for your records. This will help explain why it was repainted to a potential buyer in the future.
2. take it to a shop that has experience w/ hi-line cars.
3. I would only use the same type of paint as the original. IE Oil based vs Water based.
4. the shop will prob recommend you blend in the fenders as dark paints will tend to show more. Im not convinced its necessary so I would paint the hood only.
5. Lastly its prob cost prohibitive, but see how much a new OEM Hood would cost. I have no idea.
good luck

This bears repeating. At some point down the road you're going to end up standing out next to your car with some doofus and his paint thickness gauge while he tries to convince you that the respray has reduced the value of your car by $10K. You'll want those pictures.

I was told by a porsche dealer in Orange County that replacement of the front bumper is very common because so many people tear them up on parking blocks. I think having a repainted bumper is a different story from a repainted hood.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the info.

I was told the same thing regarding the bumper. IF the wear on it is to great, it easier to buy a new one thats primed and ready for a the 20min paintjob.
