Default Ethanol-free gas?

Is ethanol-free gas available in CA? in the SF Bay Area in particular?

Does Chevron and Shell always blend with 10% ethanol?

Ethanol is bad news an we should avoid it if we can.

You won't want to hear this:

The EPA will most likely vote to increase permissable levels of ethanol in gas to 15% sometime time mid 2010.

And how is our P-car gonna handle the 15% ethanol in gas? Isn't it only designed to handle up to 10%?

We have to stop this nonsense. Current engines will not run w/ 15% ethanol. The solution may be to horde large amounts of gas (ethanol-free) in strategic points in the country and sell memberships to fuel there.

We, the people, must send a clear message to our representatives in DC.

They are so inclined to pay attention to the people these days. Particularly the 997 demographic.

This could have had an impact not too long ago, but not these days. Not a chance. The best thing that could happen here is that more ethanol plants go bankrupt due to the current anti-business climate in Washington (putting it nicely).

Since the best we can get here in the sf bay area is 91 anyways, let's find a good 93 source to stockpile.

93 is ideal, but I can live with 91. Ethanol is the problem.

From what I understand (I grew up in Iowa, the Farm Welfare State) ethanol isn't even all that "green" for many reasons, correct?

93 octane is one of the good things I got when I moved from Corona del Mar, CA to Massachusetts. The weather's a whole other story.

It falls under the Green agenda. Anyway, I'll let OCBen analyze this one and give the us the answer.
