Will '11 911 really be 998 w/no side mirrors?
Does anyone know whether the change to 998 is really slated to begin with the '11 year model Carrera? Seems awfully soon for a big change given scope of the recent '09 changes (and it seems like a 911 w/no side view mirrors on the doors just wouldn't look right regardless). Any insight on whether this is really set to happen in '11 would be appreciated...

It's probably going to be Fall of '11 as a '12 model.
However... some say Summer '12 - http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...llCars/244386/

I've heard rumors of them making substantial efforts to reduce the weight. That will be a welcome addition.

The "991" will show up on schedule, and as a friend of mine on the inside told me one day, "if you like the 997, you'll LOVE the 991." Its design has been out for some time, and mule testing goes on, hidden well beneath 997 skins.
When I look at the wide mirrors on the 970 model (Panamera) I noted that they avoided integrating the mirrors into the leading corner of the doors (like on the Carreras). This greatly simplifies the engineering changes necessary to jump to small rear cameras with displays on the A pillars. The windows will remain unaffected, and all they will have to do is to delete the mounting holes in the door, and most changes will be to the A pillar area.

Sounds like it is the future of all side mirrors if true.

Rest assured that the car will have side mirrors.
