I like the idea of an OEM custom-fitting sunshade, but I dislike the slip case. I'd prefer elastic bands/straps for their quick and ease of use.

The rolled units are a bit bulky and lose shape (wrinkle). Of those I think the best one is the HeatShield. If the OEM fits the 997 it would be preferable.

Lightbulb UPDATE

UPDATE: the Part No. PNA-505-996 is indeed a 996 part number. I verified this calling Carlsen. They claim the 997 fit is good - the question is how good? Does anyone know?

I contacted Covercraft who was making the 996 shade for Porsche and they have a fitted unit for the 997 (CoverCraft PN UV11029).

I ordered one from AutoAnything. This one will fit. It also has the advantage of not having the Porsche badge with the added bonus of being more discrete.

Default discreet

Is that because you could not tell its a porsche without the word porsche on the sunshade?

I just ordered a blank one from autogeek.net

cannot wait to get it

Just thought I’d add that the referenced OEM sunshield (PNA-505-996) indeed fits the 997. I use this particular sunshield, purchased from Carlsen Porsche, and have nothing but good things to say regarding the product. It provides full coverage with a perfect fit and is easy to install and remove.

Any chance you could toss up a picture or two from the inside and outside with it up?

Got one from Performance Products and it fit my 2007 Turbo perfectly. Cost was $40. Made of the soft material that you roll up. Silver on outside and white material on inside of shield. Has velcro strap to hold it together when rolled up and not in use

since you asked about fit, I have the 997 model and find it's a little too short - it works fine, but if you push it all the way down the dash it doesn't quite reach the sun visors when down for anchoring. YMMV

997 car model or 997 shade?

I assume you say that your car is a 997 and you are using the OEM 996 shade which is a bit short.

As promised, here are a few photos of the OEM sunshield (PNA-505-996) in use. Installation is simple and quick---unfold the sunshield, put it in place, and extend both sun visors to hold it in position. Depending on the specific angle of your rear-view mirror, you may need to make a minor adjustment in order for the sunshield to clear it and reach the windshield, but that’s an easy thing to address.

Note that the 997’s sun visors do not extend to the point that they push the sunshield flat against the windshield. Instead, the sunshield rests on the sun visors an inch or two away from the windshield.

Hope this helps…
