Default Thanks..

@leftlane thanks for the photos. Unfortunately I am looking for the pieces that they connect to and is mounted on the car. Sorry for the confusion . I believe the part numbers are:

996-561-654-03 Electric (Driver’s)
996-561-653-05 AS Fixture

The photo shows the bayonet part that attaches to the hardtop and the other two parts which attach behind rear seats.

PM me if anybody has them for sale.

Question on the hardtop install, not sure if I missed this somewhere on the thread:

I sourced a hardtop in my paint color with the older style twist pin style pegs.
I was able to source the proper receiver mounts, 996.561.653.03 and 996.561.654.03 from LAPD.
My question is regarding the screws to attach the mounts to the car. Are they already in there and get reused or do I need to get them separately? I assumed they would come with the mounts but didn't.

I'm not sure about this but I thought the 996 had the receiver mounts as standard included when the car was built. I have a 997.2 and in 2009 Porsche did not include them except when the build order included a removable hardtop. In any event, it is my guess that the screws are already in the car, and access to them is to open the top to the service position. My car had plastic dummy inserts which were mounted with the screws I reused for the receiver mounts. You may have the same screws already there. I'm interested to hear what you found.

Just to be clear, my car is a 997.1. I don't want to start opening it up unless I know I've got everything. Don't want to start sourcing the screws if I don't have to. Just hoping for a quick answer

I'm sure the screws are there. You need to open up the top and peel back to reveal the screws. The pictures in this thread show exactly where they are. Man up and put on your big boy pants. This is an easy install. Your hardest work will be the height adjustment of the hard top over the rear cowel. You'll need to be careful the hardtop doesn't rub and scratch your paint. Just saying.

I just purchased and installed a 996 hardtop (1999, only used a handful of times according to the seller) on my 997.2 and immediately I noticed louder wind noise, and when I washed the car there are some water leaks from the side windows. I noticed when the windows are rolled up all the way with the doors shut, it doesn't go all the way up to reach the top "rubber" seal of the hardtop but only up to the "felt" seal of the hardtop. I really like the way it looks but if I can't resolve the wind noise and water leak issues then I will have to remove it. Any idea how to fix it?

Sounds to me like your back screws are not the right length. I suggest you review Dan' pictures on this sight where he provides pictures specifically showing the length exactly as the factory sets using a micrometer. I did and it worked for me. The measurements are crucial to the top fitting properly and removing squeaks and should allow the top to sit lower thus making the windows fit to the top of the correct position. Good luck.

The screw length for the removable top is on page 4 of this thread by Edgy (Dan).

I wouldn't know how to answer that. The threaded system is entirely different than the bayonet, and I would expect dimensions to be different.

Thanks to the information in this thread, I bought a Arctic Silver hardtop last spring. It was sitting in a corner on a rolling stand at the dealership's parts department with a $1000 price on it.

After seeing it several months, I offered them $600 and they took it. My mistake was that I glanced at the mounting posts and determined that they were bayonets, so I bought bayonet mounting blocks for $100 from a dismantler.
Oops -- I got that wrong! The top had screw-type mounting posts.

Luckily, I have a small lathe, so it wasn't too big a job to turn up some adapter sleeves and thread them M10 for the screw mounting posts. I made them with an interference fit, so they had to be gently tapped into the bayonet holes and secured with Loctite. (photo)

I finally put the top on Saturday (fall ritual) and the adapters work perfectly as far as I can tell. The top is tight with no leaks or whistles. Now I have to get it painted black to match the car....
