$1000 for the hardtop and mounting kit.

Wish it was white. I would have made you an offer.

Wiggy: Just stumbled on this site. This is great. I just got a 997 hardtop (didn't realize it was for 997 not 996, trusted selleer.) anyhow great article but I am doing reverse, by putting the screw type studs to the bayonnet receiver car. The mounts you're selling with your hardtop are what I need, rather than change the hardtop pins. Sound right? Thanks

A bit late in the session I know... But after just getting my car back from waiting at the dealer for over a month for new set of custom HRE Wheels: 890Rs to arrive. I finally got her home last week, cleaned her up and put the hardtop on.

Before doing so I checked my mounting hardware and performed minor adjustments. Thank you Dan & Neil for posting.

Default Late to the party...

I know I'm late to this party, but I thought I'd chime in. First, I bought a black 996 hardtop on Long Island last Fall for $400, for my 2009 Ruby Red 997 TT Cab. I had the screw type hardware installed by my local Porsche specialist.

When I removed the hardtop this spring it had minor, but clearly visible small scratches on the back cowl in exactly the same spot on both sides. Thanks for the research on this issue. I'll go home and make the proper adjustments thanks to all you guys!

I just got a used top for mine. How many of those small round cushions are supposed to be on the underside of the top? Mine only has 1 and it seems like there should be 2 or 3? Any ideas what the part number is for these pads?

I believe there should be three of those pads.

Default Hardtop $$

I am looking at a 997 that has a hardtop as part of the deal.
It's Black and If I do buy the car I will not need the top, what would be a fair price for it...it is in Fort Lauderdale.....I imagine shipping it would be rather expensive as it would also have to be boxed...

These pads fell off my hardtop. Where do they go? Is this why i had little scratches on my cowl last year? Picture anyone?

Thx

Those small closed cell foam pieces fit between the interior side panels of the hardtop and the exterior (aluminum) part of the hardtop, back near the mounting pins. One is for the left side, the other for the right. If you look at your hardtop (inverted) you will see that there is a gap back there now that the foam pieces are missing. They do not affect the cowl at all. They go in where the C pillar would be.

Default Dealer Call

I have an 06 4S Cab and was looking into a hard top. I see them on eBay for the 996 so decided to call my dealer & speak with the parts guy.

He stated a customer tried to follow the Rennlist regarding putting the 996 top on the 997 and he said it never fit right?

These were the part numbers he gave me for the hard top mounts for my car:
997-561-653-00
997-561-654-00

The number for the hard top is 997-044-000-00-84A (guards red). Can anyone tell me the part number for the 996 hard top?

Another question is, if the 996 top does fit, are the mounts also 996 part numbers and added to the 997 car?

Thanks for the help.

I researched this a lot a couple of years ago before deciding I didn't need a hard top. There are 3 different types of rear fastening posts that were used on the 996 hard tops. The last variety, which I believe was brought in for the 2004 model year, uses a screw type pin instead of the bayonet type used on the first 2 varieties. No matter which one you have on the hard top you find, you can always get a kit to convert to the better screw type. Everything I read from other members showed that the 996 tops fit fine on the 997. But you'll need to get the rear fastening receptors and install them in your car, including the wiring for the rear window defroster. I think the total for the parts came to around $300. I have a list somewhere, so if you need it let me know.

I read this complete thread twice. I called Suncoast w parts recommended. He looked into it, could order them, but wouldnt say it would work. He recommended other parts from a Bulletin that Porsche sent him, so I ordered these.
They came in and will install on Monday coming.

I have a 07' 997.1 cab. Bought H/W kit (can't recall part number but bought through Suncoast) for "screw type hardware on hardtop and "receiver" hardware for body. installed, made adjustments (as discussed here and it has fitted/worked great!

Will be putting mine on this or next week for season.

Thanks for responding. The top I'm considering has bayonet (t) type connectors. So you suggest I retro fit the top with the updated screw type? Can I bother you for the part numbers? As I understand it, the part numbers are 996 model but fit the 997 correct? Thanks again.
