Default Happiest Stolen Car Story

For starters, I had a 97 993 C4s for 5 years and loved it. Sold it and leased a 2008 550i 6 speed, carbon black, sport package for "practical reasons" (3 kids, etc). From the first week i had the 550, i was unhappy with the driving experience (or lack of one) and was very vocal that i could not wait for the lease to end so that i could get back into a 911.

Low and behold, i get off the train from NYC and can't figure out where i parked my car...yes, it was nabbed by what seems to be pros, 18 mos prior to the lease expiration. After about 2 hours of feeling violated and being bummed out, i thought, wow this could be the answer to my prayers. Boy was i right, I jumped onto Rennlist, did my research and within a couple of weeks I was the proud owner of a 2009 arctic silver 911.

I have had my first spanken new 911 for 2 weeks and i am sure you call all imagine the smile on my face on a daily basis. Just for the record, the 550 is a very nice car, but the satisfaction relative to the cost of the car was not a formula that worked. Whereas, the 911 provides measureless enjoyment.

Beyond glad to be back!!!! Can't wait for tomorrow so i can drive my car again

Was this just a subliminal admission that you had your own car stolen>?

Glad it worked out. Pretty sad statement about the 550. Talk about karma...

I've had three BMW's over the years and each model change has
resulted in a significantly worse vehicle.

My last 5 Series ('07 530i) was a car I never liked looking at
or driving from the day I bought it. It felt and handled
like a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

In addition, you couldn't go three blocks without seeing one
just like yours.

Now they are so inexpensive on the used market,
anyone who needs transportation can get one.

The best BMW I had was my 1991 red 318is, manual, which I drove
in high school.

Farewell BMW.

Bummer about that jacking, but seems it worked out good for you. I felt the same way about my '07 550i. After driving some great BMWs in the past (24 years worth), I just don't know what they are doing anymore - the last Ultimate Driving Machine I had was an e39 M5 - best car I ever owned, and since then they've just gone a different and disappointing "me too" direction with their cars. Seems like they did something like that in around 1990 - I had a 325i that was horrible, and my next 325is, 1993, was awesome. Maybe BMW will get back on track one day.

But hey, enjoy that 911 - all's well that ends well.

The fact you intentionally left the keys is the car with the windows down and a sign "take it..its yours" also helped your situation. I'll keep that in mind when I need to unload one of my cars.

The only problem I see with this stolen car scenario is the fact
that your insurance company will be raising your premium
so high that they will get the cost of the Bimmer back over
the next few years.

However, the good news is, you're out of the Toyota (I mean BMW)
and into a gorgeous 911.

pretty sure stolen cars are a comprehensive claim, to which its not an "at fault" claim=no increase in premiums.. not sure how its done up north but any claim that your no "at fault" for has no affect on premiums here.. but can leave you getting "dropped" from the provider.

friend has had his motorcycle stolen a few times, and car keyed and rates never went up. but any accident thats your fault=ur screwed

Default Somebody should take my 550 too!

I also have a 2008 550I 6sp. The practical side of me purchased it. After a few months of ownership I knew I should have bought the 911 in the first place. The 550 is an enjoyable car but its not what it should be. I am going to dump it at the first opportunity and get the 911. The interesting thing is its as close as one can get to a true sports car and be a practical sedan.

I had a 09 AMG C63 which beats the crap out of the 550i (I have two BMW 335 and X5 so dont think I am bashing the BMW) and I didnt like it and couldnt wait to get back to the 911. I am really satisfied.

How did they steal your car? A flatbed truck? I thought that unless you had the key these modern cars are hard to take.
