Default 2010 C4S vs. 2009 Turbo

I posted on Rennlist pretty frequently back in the day, but have gone Porsche-less for awhile. Got the itch again, however, and am presented with an interesting choice: I have spec'd and ordered a C4S for production in the fall (my dealer has no further production allocations). However, he just called and proposed I consider an existing new 2009 Turbo (very similar to the specs on my C4S order) he would trade from another dealer. The cost differential would be about $20-25K when all was said and done.

I have never really considered a Turbo 911 before. I have never driven one and there are none at the dealership to drive. I spent most of last night reading everything I could get my hands on. I need an all-weather car, enjoy long-distance touring (GT-type), don't track (yet--I am 30 minutes from Miller Motorsports Park). It will be a daily driver. Personality-wise, I don't need extreme HP at this point in my life (been there done that), and typically maintain a pretty low profile. However, I do like the way the Turbo looks (as well as the C4S for that matter).

At this price level, money is not really the deciding factor, but my wonderful but long-suffering wife has let me know in no uncertain terms that I get one more Porsche, and that's it. So I want to make the right, long-term call here. Any thoughts would be helpful.

If it were my money, and it were being spent on what might be my final Porsche, I'd take the Turbo in a heartbeat (actually I'd probably go GT3, but out of the ones on your shopping list it would undoubtedly be the turbo!)

You're not getting "extreme HP" in the turbo. There are many sporty alternatives with more HP, significantly cheaper than the 911.

It's the whole package - AWD, nice torque, 911 styling, etc.

If you're set on Turbo vs. C4S, then I would go with the turbo. The negatives of owning a C4S are in the turbo as well (steering feel, front end weight heaviness, etc.) but the turbo goes much further with performance.

If this is your "last" Porsche, might as well go out with the Turbo. You'll probably have the least regrets in the future....

Agreed.

I love my C4S, but I'll will DEFINITELY buy another new Porsche (I want a completely custom car, Euro delivery, etc.). The "last" new Porsche for me will be either a Turbo or GT3 (RS?).

The Turbo is a monster - no chance of you NOT loving it.

Here we go again... I don't understand why there is ever a question between a Turbo & C2S/C4S for off track driving other than price?
If you can get a Turbo, then get the Turbo!

Do NOT do it. You will regret it. I do not yet have 6 turbos in the garage:

2 in the V10 TDI Touareg
2 in the 993 TT
1 in the 911 Turbo S2

Plain and simple..............Turbos suck.

I can honestly say I'm glad I got the C4S this time. The Turbo is definitely overkill on the street where I live. I had an "incident" the other day of 90 in a 45 that would have been 120 in a 45 with a Turbo...

Price was not the issue at all (in my case). If anything, other than the "too fast" argument, I'd want to spec my own Turbo since most at the local dealers lean toward luxury rather than sport. I could see where people "settle" for a Carrera if a Turbo is out of reach. Tough life - settling for a Carrera...

+1. I know full leather comes standard in the Turbo but can you spec one without it? May be as impossible as getting rid of the sunroof. Why opt out of the leather? Cause I like these cars plain and raw and the leather stitching adds a flair of luxury that I'd just as soon do without. Seats and steering wheel - absolutely. Dashboard, center console, armrest and anything else that can be wrapped and stitched - no thanks.

Lets face it you will be happy with either one. If I had to pick between one I would lean towards the Turbo. The big plus on the Turbo that I see is, you can have it NOW!!!!!! Good luck with your decision.

I like the look of the C4S MUCH better. Classic, clean Porsche lines.
I think the Turbo is overdone...

Get the 4S and use the $20k to take the wife on a whirlwind Europen Romance Tour for a month and end her suffering. Guaranteed this will allow you to get, yet, another Porsche Car at some point.

I can't imagine the cost not being a factor in your decision, but I recently test drove a C4S with PDK and found the performance with launch control outstanding. For all out performance my choice would be the GT3.
