I repaired my flat with a mushroom plug set....I am not going to go 150mph. Nor am I going to pay $620
everytime I get a flat. Everyone tells you that you must buy a new tire everytime you get a flat....sorry bud I will take my chance. Again, if you are going to race around..sure, but
I will keep my speed under 100, with occ 120.

That is an awfully high price. Next time, try Tirerack.

Didn't say what brand tire but PS2's seem to be the most common. Tirerack wants $499 for a 295/30. Add shipping, mount & balance and $620 approaches fast.

i'd patch it if it has decent tread left. nothing wrong w a good patch job imo.

all those people that tell u never to repair tires and replace it when it's 1/2 worn just want to take your money. ive not heard of one accident that resulted from a tire failure because it was patched specifically.

You should have bought a Miata. The tires are much cheaper.

I've had tires patched from the inside and then tracked the car with no problems whatsoever.

Ron,
Unless you track the car, replacing a tire because of a nail simply does not make sense to me. I have plugged my own tires for more than 20 years - with absolutely no issues. If I had to guess, I would say that I've done 20 - 25 repairs over all those years. In each case, the repair outlasted the tire. I have removed nails, screws, pieces of metal, etc. I do not use my 993 on the track and have 12,000 miles on my current tires - with three plugs.

On a related note, I was doing an oil change and tire rotation on my 4Runner Saturday night since we were leaving very early Sunday morning. I found a sliver of metal sticking out of one of the tires, promptly removed it, plugged the hole, and topped off the air. Good as new.

Here is the kit I use and trust: Safety Seal

I've plugged the same tire twice (on my car car now ), drove for hours around 75 mph. No problems.

You are making assumptions that there was a nice clean hole in an area of the tire that is acceptable to a repair.

I elected to get the wheel and tire insurance so that I don't have to make a judgement call. I carry a radial tire repair kit anyway to get me home, and then I let my tire shop deal with finding a tire and mounting it. It costs me nothing to replace the tire.

Have had two or three replaced by them so far with nails doing the damage. So long as you alert them to the problem they start a claim, authorize the work, and then pay me (reimbursement) for the costs.

Hey edgy....
Have you had to use the insurance yet? Did they replace the tire no questions?
I have been looking into the insurance but wasn't sure about the price......$690 here in AZ. Thanks!

Plugged my tire while at the track and continued to run, and 4 events after that. Also plugged one of my A6 autox tires, 4 events ago.

Amen on the wheel and tire insurance. Saved my bacon twice on my Cayman S and well worth the $500 or so it cost.
