Default Aerial Assault

Yea,--off topic (but it's tail no. is 910!)

Took this minutes ago from across the street. (Nikon D3 80~200 AFS with 2x).

This fire has kept me busy. Got the hardtop on and am ready to vamoose!!

The tanker is the largest active aerial tanker in the US inventory. DC-10 based, it can lay down a layer of flame retardant a mile long

Hey Dan,
WOW - that is a really dramatic shot.
My best to you and yours that those fires steer clear of your home.

Dan, great picture, but that's really scary... way too close for my taste... I really hope it moves away from you... how bad is the smoke/smell?

Smoke and ash were much worse earlier. I arrived on Thursday from Anchorage to a very smoky airport in SB.

The photo is of an area west of Rte 154, paralleling West Camino Cielo.

Super shot, Dan.
Here's the front page of the L.A. Times this morning.
Tough to read the Sports Section with all that racket in the backyard.

I was up in Alaska when it started. Maybe on Tuesday evening? So I flew back on Friday morning to take care of things.

Dan, good luck to you and to your fellow Santa Barbarans. I was just out there a few weeks ago on vacation - it's one of the most beautiful spots I've ever seen.

Thanks, everyone. Things are looking better for the southside of the mountains now but worried about the other side as the fires continue to build to the north. With over 1000 personnel and dozens of aircraft involved I think they're taking this very seriously. Even Arnold (the governator) dropped in yesterday for a visit!

Dan: I thought the fire was in Big Sur way North of San Simeon. Is that another fire?
Take care of yourself!
