How should I upgrade my base stereo ?
Hello all,
There seems to be a lot of topics on stereo's, I've read through a lot, but would be interested in a couple of specific questions. I have a non Bose stereo. So her are my questions :-
a) Where's the best place to go for an upgrade in the NYC area ?
b) If you had $3500 - $5000 to invest in a stereo how would you spend it ?
Here's some requirements I have -
1) I want the installation to look as stock as possible.
2) I want ipod integration.
3) I want sirius radio.
4) I'd like (but don't need) bluetooth integration for my cell.
5) Music quality is important to me. I'd like a clear, powerful, full bodied solution.
Please don't tell me to sell my car and get one with Bose. Also, if you have any ideas about how to phase the intallation I'd be interested.
Cheers,
Andy

I think the best audio upgrade on a budget is X51 headers, AWE cats, and the OEM mufflers. If cost is no object and you like it loud, go for the whole AWE system.

Drove 350 highway miles yesterday. With or without PSE, could barely hear the radio. Had a blast and never thought to turn it up loud, but it would not have made any difference with road and exhaust noise. I have an Alpine in my BMW. It is nice and cost about $2000 with speakers and changer. It sounds better than the Porsche Bose setup in my opinion.

All kidding aside, I do listen to the OEM stereo on long hauls (ie: bringing GT3 home, 500 miles, to Watkins Glen, 300 miles and 300 miles back, etc.). It's just fine as long as you fiddle with the settings. With the mechanical and tire noise, you're in a terrible environment for audio, so I don't even think about trying to make it any better than what comes stock. At home, however, the Linn sounds sweet!
