Default Under seat cavity ate my phone!

Last night after some spirited driving in my 997 TT cabriolet my iPhone slid out of the center console tray onto the floor then under the seat, at which point it slid into a 1/2 inch sized slot in the front of the underseat cavity which seems to have no end. It seems as though there is a double floor that covers the entirety of the passenger compartment. I can hear my phone vibrating and see it light up the cavity but after 2 hours with a coat hanger and a barbeque skewer I still wasn't able to find its exact location and pull it out. Now I am going to remove the seat but I don't know what to do if that fails. Is there another access to that area between the floor boards and pan? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing happened to me earlier this year

I never removed the seat, just bought a better phone

I spent at least 3-4 hours with a coat hanger wire, even tried to view the area with a video camera and flashlight. No dice.

If you get yours out please let us know how you did it. I'd like to remove mine, eventually that battery might leak.

You want to put duct tape on the hanger and try again.

I know what you are talking about, and I have seen that carpet slot with the seat removed. The phone might went deep inside the slot, the carpet might be too stiff to massage the phone out, and the space under the seat might be too narrow to work our hands...

It might take a little struggle mentally, but give it up and call your dealer. Explain to them and bring the car down, have them fetch the phone out (they may need to remove the seat in some cases) while you wait in the lounge sipping coffee, write a cheque and drive car home with phone in hand

It might not sound like a bright idea at the beginning, but I have learned the hard way that... pay the dealer to do it would save myself from pulling all my hair out

Best luck,

Is that hole big enough to swallow that front license plate thing that Rolf sells?

I went down and checked the hole under the seat - the license plate thing wasn't there but my clip on sun glasses were. I've been looking for them for over a week. They were in the hole, with one of the clips hung up on the entrance. I got lucky. I'm going to find something to stuff into that hole so stuff can't slide in.

What is the function of this hole? I lost some change and assorted other things in this space. I spent an hour with a coat hanger and vacuum cleaner etc fishing stuff out of that spot last weekend.

Would it do any damage to duct tape this space shut?

Yet another reason I can't wait for BT in the 2009 cars...

Good luck with retrieving your phone!

Seat removal is relatively simple. Four (4) bolts and some connectors.

Good Luck!

I would remove the four torx bolts. You
would slide the seat forward and undo the back
ones. Then slide the seat back and undo the fronts.
Do not disconnect the wire to the seat. Just tip the seat and you can
get to your phone. There is an electric box under the seat
for air bags and other stuff. Undoing the four bolts
is real easy.
